Sports Update!

2009/2010 Season:


* The team lost to a strong Woodlands team 48-42 on Tuesday December 15th. The team got off to a slow start put picked up the pace in the 2nd half and made a game of it. Chitom Ezeokonkwo led the team with 14 points while Nathaniel Walker contributed 10 points for the Panthers. A great effort was given by all team members.

* The team earned their first win of the season with a victory over Mentor College 35-27 on Thursday December 10th. Nate Walker showed unbelievable leadership as well as a scoring touch by netting 17 points for the Panthers. A great effort was given by all members of the team.

* The team took part in the Port Credit Blue and Gold Invitational on December 3rd, 4th and 5th. The team were unable to come away with a win in this competition but finish as a much improved team having encountered some talented teams during the three days of competition.

* Despite a much improved effort, the Senior Boys Basketball team lost to a very athletic Applewood team on Wednesday December 2nd by a score of 46 -34. Once the team manage to master a few basic fundamental skills, they will be able to turn their season around. Chitom Ezeokonkwo led the team with 14 points while Nate Walker chipped in 9 points for the Panthers. The team are looking forward to taking part in the Port Credit Invitational Tournament over the Dec. 4th./5th long weekend in an effort to improve their team play, skills and confidence on the court.

* The Senior Boys Basketball team played their first game of the season albeit an exhibition game against Woodlands on Thursday November 26th. The team were competitive and put forth a good effort. Unfortunately, they struggled inside the paint and as a result were beaten to the glass on many an occasion. Regardless, exhibition games happen for a reason and the boys learned some valuable lessons in a 45-33 loss. Nate Walker and Chitom Ezeokonkwo each had 10 points for the Panthers.

*The Senior Girls Basketball team had yet another successful season finishing with 7 wins and only 1 loss. The team finished tops in their division and as a result qualified for the tier I playoffs. After a thrilling 47-45 victory over Loyola, the team advanced to the quarter-final where they were defeated by a very big and skilled Father Goetz team. Coach Swindall would like to thank the team for all of their hard work and commitment this season. Congratulations to Alyson Stanford and Larisa Saplys for being selected co-MVP's for the 2009 squad.

2008/2009 Season:


* The Varsity Boys Rugby team endured yet another hard season finishing with a record of only
one win and 5 losses. Despite a lop-sided loss to Mentor College, all of the other games were
hard fought and competitive. This group of athletes were never shut out by any of the teams they
played against and managed a victory against Rick Hanson. Coach Swindall would like to thank the
team for battling through various injuries and bumps and bruises and for a character-building
season. Congratulations to Kyle Ruiter, Brandon Hale, DJ Patrick and Nathaniel Walker for being
selected to the Peel All-Star team.

*The Senior Boys Basketball team's season came to an end this season with a 72-57 semi-final
loss over Heart Lake. The team had another fine season finishing with a regular season record of
8 wins and 0 losses. Their record for the season including tournaments, exhibition games and
playoffs was 13 wins and only 4 losses. Coach Swindall and Coach Rigato would like to thank the
team for all of their hard work and committment this season. Also, congratulations to Travis
Sherwood, Wes Durette and Mike Park for being selected to try out for the Peel All-Star team.

* The Senior Girls Basketball team's season came to an end with a preliminary playoff loss to
powerful Ascension. The team had a good season finishing with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses.
Congratulations to Annie Le and Monika Szpytko for being named the team's co-MVP's for the 2008
fall season.

2007/2008 Season:


* The Varsity Boys Rugby team endured a tough season this year with injuries yet persevered to
finish with an overall record of 2 wins and 5 losses and qualified in fourth place for the
playoffs in the Tier II south division. Congratulations to Evan Heics, Jeremy Haynes, Anton
Krizan and Nick Medeiros for being selected to the Peel All-Star team.

* The Sr. Boys Basketball team enjoyed one of the finest seasons in Cawthra Park history this
past fall/winter season. The team finished the season with a record of 16 wins and only 2 losses
and made it all the way to the semi-finals! The team also won both of the tournaments which they
entered during the season (Mentor College and St. Martin's Invitational Tournaments). Mr.
Swindall, Mr. Nicitopoulos and Mr. Rigato would like to thank the team for all of their hard
work and commitment during these past 4 months.

* The Senior Girls Basketball team had a very successful campaign this year finishing the year
with 11 wins and only 3 losses and advancing as far as the quarter-finals in the playoffs where
they unfortunately lost to a very strong Father Goetz team. Mr. Swindall and Travis Sherwood
would like to thank the team for all of their efforts during the fall "hoops" season.

2006/2007 Season:


* The Varsity Boys Rugby team finished their season with a 22-12 semi-final loss to St. Francis
Xavier on May 24th. The team had a fantastic year finishing with a record of 7 wins and only 1
loss. Congratulations to Jon Yakymchuk, Lucas Morra, Patrick Vogel and Dave Rokitnicki for being
selected to the Peel All-Star team.

Carmel by a score of 33-22. The team had a great year finishing with a record of 8 wins and 5
losses. Mr. Swindall would like to thank the team for all of their efforts during the

Centennial 48-37. The team had a great year finishing with a record of 15 wins and only 5
