TUESDAY: What makes Earth so special? Today we looked at why Earth has life while no other planet in our solar does. Be sure to finish the brainstorming activity. Don't forget your "Traveller's Guide to the Cosmos" is due tomorrow!! WEDNESDAY: Unit Review We completed a worksheet today to help prepare for the test on Friday. If you missed class, the worksheet can be found on the SNC 1P Downloads page. THURSDAY: Unit Review Today we continued our review with a group activity and a practice test. Be sure to complete the review from yesterday and reveiw your notes. YOu will be able to use your notebook for part of the test so make sure it is up-to-date and in class tomorrow! FRIDAY: Space Unit Test Week of November 16th MONDAY: The Sun Today we learn about the sun - our star! HOMEWORK: Our press conferenc isWednesday! Be ready to present your report on our mission to the moon! Your desitnation profiles for your project are due tomorrow! TUESDAY: Meteors in the News: Comets, Asteroids and Meteoroids.
Today our focus will be hunks of rock in space - big ones, cold ones and ones that are headed right for earth!

Today, after the quiz, we put together the good copy for your Traveller's Guide to the Cosmos. You will have the period to work on it. Follow the rubric provided. Remember it is due on Monday!
Week of November 9th MONDAY: TUESDAY: Journey through the Cosmos In the library! Today we started our project "A Treveller's Guide to the Cosmos" in which you will be creating a travel guide through the universe. The assignment is in on the downloads oage. You can find the instructions there. Today you need to choose yuor destinations and complete the online form (see my Home Page) WEDNESDAY: Journey through the Cosmos Today we continue working on your desintation profiles. YUO should get at least two desitnations complete using the in-class resources (books!) THURSDAY: Galaxies Today we learn about different types of galaxies - be sure to get the note if you missed class. For homework, be sure to have your Comparing Planets profiles done - you will need thme for tomorrow's quiz!

After the quiz, we have an assignment (worksheet) to complete on the solar system. It is to be submitted in class along wiht your Comparinf Planets worksheet. The rest of the class can be used to work on yuor destination profiles for your Traveller's Guide to the Cosmos.

Today we investigate why Earth has life while other planets don't seem to have any at all. What make earth a place that life can exist? How is it different from other planets in our solarsystem?

Week of October 26th MONDAY: Moon Mission Preparation Today we finish up the training stations for our mission to the moon tomorrow. Your workbooks will be collected at the end of class. TUESDAY: Field trip to Ontario Science Centre Moon Mission today!

Today we start working on our follow-up reports and preparation for our press conference which will take place next Tuesday in class.

Week of October 13th Today we looked at our ecobottles and what happened over the past weeks. We started the next part of the summative assignment (today's handout).
Science in the News - Today's articles all had some type of human impact to consider. What effect do humans have on the environment?
HOMEWORK: 1. Do research for the ecobottle assignment - see the SNC 1P0 Links page for a start to your research. 2. Do your rough copy of this woksheet - the final copy is due on Thursday. You may type it if you wish. See the Downloads page to get an electronic copy. After today's quiz, we watch a video from the Planet Earth series, "Shallow Seas". Be sure to complete the worksheet that goes with the video.
HOMEWORK: Don't forget that your Eco-bottle poster is due on Monday! Remember to bring in your permission form for teh Science Centre trip.
WEDNESDAY: Week of September 28th - Sustainability of Ecosystems MONDAY - Carbon Cycle
Today we continued to work on our Carbon Cycle Comic Strip. Remember, you task is to draw a comic strip that tells the story of a carbon atom on its journey from being a part of a dinosaur to becoming part of YOU! (yes, it is possible!) You must have at least 4 or 5 steps in the journey. Use the big paper provided in class and be sure to get Ms Fitz to look at your rough work before you do your good copy. It is due on WEDNESDAY!
TUESDAY - Nitrogen Cycle (half day)
Today we learned about the nitrogen cycle. We completed the flow chart diagram (provided in class) and took a note off the board. Be sure to get the note from a classmate if you missed class.

Today we follow the pathway of a nitrogen atom on its way through the nitrogen cycle with a class activity.
THURSDAY - Nitrogen
Today we continued with the Nitrgoen cycle, completing yesterday's activity. As well, we worked in the text book (which, unfortunately, yuo can not take home) to read about the nitrogen cycle and to complete a worksheet and questions from the text (pp. 30-31, questions #1-7)

FRIDAY - upsetting the balance in an ecosystem
What can happen to an ecosystem to upset the nitrogen and carbon cycles. What might happen in our ecobottles. Today we will explore these questions.
Week of October 5th THURSDAY - Population growth Oh deer! IF the weather is good, today we go outside to play a simulation game that will show us what happens to the size of populations of animals as they compete for food and resources. We will analyze our data and see what we can learn about competition in the wild.
Homework: Friday quiz tomorrow - be sure to study the nitrogen cycle and the carbon cycle!

What keeps the size of populations of animals and plants in check? Today we play a game that will help us understand the decisions park rangers and wildlife managers must make in looking after national parks and the animals and plants that live in them.
