SCH 4U0 Homework

Week of January 5th

 

MONDAY:  Titration - practice

  • Today we will prepare our standard solution for the practice titration.  Some will have time to complete a few trials and work on the calculations.
  • Be sure to complete your test corrections and also review the Ka and Kb problems.  We will have a quiz on Friday
  • FOR HOMEWORK:  Draw a series of diagrams for the procedure involved in a titration.  Use values provided for Part A of the lab (in workbook).

TUESDAY:  Titration

  1. Today we will complete the practice titration and start the summative.  Be sure to work on the calculations for homework. 
  2. The summative (results and analysis) are due on  Thursday.

WEDNESDAY:  Redox reactions

  • Some of you may need part of the class to complete your titration.
  • Complete the Redox Reactions Problems (at least up to #8)
  • Titration results and analysis are due tomorrow

THURSDAY:  Redox reactions

  • Today we will finish up redox reactions.  Complete the worksheet for homework
  • Acid Base quiz tomorrow - there will be a couple of redox questions on it a well.

  • Complete pp. 80-82 in workbook
  • Do pH and pOH problems on worksheet (p. 82)

TUESDAY:  Acid and Base Equilibrium - problems

  • Finish Acid and Base Equilibrium problems (worksheet p. 84)
  • Complete text questions, p. 537 in text, # 4- 6; p. 563, # 6; p. 540 #9-10.

WEDNESDAY:  Titrations

  • Complete text questions, p. 537 in text, # 4- 6; p. 563, # 6; p. 540 #9-10.
  • For Friday, complete the Acid-Base Titration assignment (see downloads page - overhead from Wed)
  • Tomorrow:  Equilibrium Unit test Part One (acids and bases will not be on this test)

THURSDAY:  Equilibrium Unit test Part One

  • The test will cover equilibrium up to, but not including, acids and bases.

FRIDAY:  "TRY-TRATIONS"

  • A practice run of titration.  We will do the summative in the new year.

WEDNESDAY:  Design Lab

  • Today we conducted the lab procedures that you designed on Monday.
  • Lab reports will be due next Thursday, Nov. 20th

THURSDAY:

  • Completion of the Lab - work in your groups
  • Completion of Nuclear Chemistry
  • Fact sheets due tomorrow

FRIDAY:  Factors affecting Rates of Reaction

  • today we will do the lab onfactors affecting rates of reaction. 
  • Complete the discussion questions for homework.
  • Read over the next lab:"Factors affecting rates of reaction" and draw diagrams for the procedure (for Monday)

    3.      Complete questions #1-3 on page 319 in Chemistry 12 text.  For question #1, do NOT do the potential energy diagrams.

Monday:  Making solutions

Homework:  Research your assigned scientist/thinker.  Download the instruction page from this site and create a one page info-sheet for use by your classmates in class tomorrow.  Jacob - you can do Abegg;

Tuesday: Atomic Theory

Today we will work together to create a timeline of the thinkers who contributed to the ideas behind today's theory of the atom.  For Homework:  finish the timeline.  Your lab report is also due tomorrow.. 

Wednesday: Quantum Theory

Homework:  Study for tomorrow's Review Unit test (practice questions on pp. 808-812 in text).

Thursday:  Review Unit test

  1. For homework, be sure to finish the atomic Theory timeline.
  2. As well, complete the review of gas laws on p. 812 in your text book.  Do every other one (or more if you need the practice).

Friday: Wave mechanical Model

Complete p. 191, # 1-5 and p. 194 # 6-10

Week of September 8th

Monday:  Mass to Mass calcluations

Be sure to prepare for tomorrow's nomenclature quiz.  Also finish the first page of stoichiometry problems (p.9)

TUESDAY: Limiting reagent

  1. Finish the worksheet "Limiting Reagent Problems"
  2. Read over the lab and be prepared for a pre-lab quiz. 
  3. Draw a series of labelled diagrams illustrating the procedure.  YOu will need this in order to be allowed to do the lab.

WEDNESDAY: Mass Relationships - Lab Investigation

  1. Read over the handout on Uncertainties
  2. Complete worksheet "Mass to Mass with %error and  yield" as well as "Stoichiometry"

THURSDAY: Lab followup

  1. Complete the woksheet on uncertainties and calculations from the Lab
  2. Lab due:  Tuesday, Sept. 16th
  3. Stoichiometry quiz tomorrow.

FRIDAY:  Solutions stoichiometry

First week

Tuesday:  Introduction

  1. You and your parents/guardians must read the General Science Policy (found on the Science Department website.  Access it from cawthrapark.com).  Also read the course expectations.  Have your folks either sign the last page of the policy document or write a note saying that they have read it.
  2. Go to the "Teacher" link on my home page.  What colour is the logo on my t-shirt?  Write it down on a scrap piece of paper and hand it in to me in class on Wednesday.
  3. Complete questions #1-6 of the Chemistry review in your workbooklet.

Wednesday: Significant Digits

Complete the review worksheet and get a head start on nomenclature.  FInd your notes from grade 11 or print off the notes on the downloads page of this site.
