Today you will do your formative begin your summative assignment on identifying rock samples. At the end of class, you will be given your rock kits for the summative task. There will be three studetns for each kit. Each student will have the opportunity to take the kit home for one night. Your analysis and conclusions are due on Wednesday

The Core - Science Fiction and Science Fact

  • We will be watching the film, The Core, in class with a critical scientific eye. Your task will be to analyze the science (the fiction and the fact) and put your ideas together into a group presentation and report. If you miss the viewing of the film, it is your responsibility to watch it outsideof class (it is available at Blockbuster)..
  • If you missed class, the assignment can be downloaded off this site.

THURSDAY

Group discussion of the film (the Core) and preparation for presentations (next week).

For homework:

  1. Be sure to go through the topic questions and pick out yuor top 3 choices. We will organize the groups tomorrow.
  2. Read over the material on Warsaw Caves (even if you arenot going).

WEDNESDAY

Evidence of the composition of Earth's interior - Seismic Wave Studies.

The questions for today's class can be found on the downlaods page. Use the readings (dated 9/16) on the Unit One Readins link to complete the exercises.

THURSDAY

In the Library - Seminar preparations. Choosing your article and picking a date.

We will have a quiz tomorrow on the composition of the the Earth's interior and the seismic evidence to back it. (that is, the work we have done this week).
