Green Urban Adventurers

Attention all Green Urban Adventurers!
The new semester has begun and we are ready to set off on new adventures. WE have some details
to work out but here are the plans for the new year. Permission forms will soon be available to
download on this site. Check later for more details!

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27th
City Council Meeting - Environmental issue!!!
Cawthra students have been invited by the Lakeview Ratepayers Association to attend a meeting of
City Council in which a vote will take place to determine the future development of the
waterfront in the Lakeview area of southern Mississauga. A gas-fired power plant has been
proposed for the area where the former coal fire power plant was recently decommissioned. The
resident’s of the area oppose the power plant and have proposed and alternative use of the land –
a waterfront district that includes environmentally sound residential and recreational
development. The objective of the trip is to observe the civic and community processes involved
in making such a decision and to challenge them to think about the environmental and social
implications of waterfront development – whether that be industrial or residential/recreational.

Times and Transportation
We will be travelling to Mississauga City Hall as a group by public transit. Students are asked
to meet in the front lobby at 7:45am to catch the 8N Mississauga Transit bus. Alternatively,
Students may choose to meet the group at Mississauga City Hall at 8:30am in the main atrium by
the information desk (north entrance). We will return to school together via Mississauga
Transit. We will return to school for period D (possibly earlier).
