SES 4U0 Links Earth Processes

Unit Two: Earth Processes

In this unit we will be focussing on the Earth's processes and movements.
Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes, cvolcanoes, seismology and more! Use the
links below to complement the material covered in class.

10/05
Long-Term Global Forecast? Fewer Continents. (NY Times, January
9th, 2007) This is a fabulous article about the possibility that
the continents will rejoin into a "Pangea Ultima" in another 250
million years. Read the article and view the animation that
accompanies it. Check out Dr. Scotese's site below.

This is the link for the article by Dr. Scotese above. Worth
checking out!

10/20
The Dynamic Earth: The Story of Plate Tectonics
A great sight with all the info (and more) that you need to
understand Plate
tectonics. Great diagrams too!

10/22
Virtual Earthquake
This site will allow you to examine seismographs and locate the
epicentre an
magnitude of a 'virtual earthquake'. Work your way through the
site,
completing the exercises. When you get to the end, print your
certificate
and results (they will appear on the same page. Hand this page
in!

Yes - we have them too. Check out this government of Canada site
for some
great info on seisomoly of Canada.

Exploring Earth
Here is a great online textbook. Unit Three is particularly
relavent for
this unit (bookmark it for future units and studying for the
exam). Check
out the great animations and diagrams.

Seismography and Earthquakes
This is a great site that will lead you through the basics of
Seismograghy
and tectonics. Take some time to go through all the pages and add
some
details to your nots.

Virtual Field trips
We may not have the money to visit these places inperson but you
can take these virtual field trips and check out the tectonics at
these exotic locations!
