Welcome to Ms. McLeod's grade 11 biology webpage. Please check back here regularly for updates on upcoming summative assessments and due dates for summative work. ***Update Dec. 13th*** We have a busy week ahead of us. Here's an outline: -Monday: discussion, finish digestion CP pages -Tuesday: work period and practice questions -Wednesday: work period and practice questions -Thursday: UNIT TEST -Friday: final day to hand-in lab reports, if disaster strikes and you can't make it to school you must email me an electronic copy of your report. I will reply with an email if I receive it. This means that if I don't reply you must re-submit it until I do. NOTE: Sometimes hotmail addresses are blocked by our Peel Board email accounts, so try to send from another address. ***Update Nov. 30th*** We have begun to work on writing up our Health Improvement Labs (blood pressure and recovery heart rate). You should check in with me about any sections you are unsure of ASAP. We want to make these reports as good as possible! ***Update November 10th*** Our unit test is scheduled for next Monday, November 16th. Genetics Test Outline Types of Questions: • MC • Matching Columns • Short Answer • Genetics Problems (monohybrid, dihybrid and exceptions to Mendel) Topics to be Covered: Genetics and cell division terminology Mitosis and Meiosis – stages, purpose of each, facts, etc. Pedigree Analysis (both determining genotypes and pattern of inheritance) Facts about Mendel, his experiments and what they demonstrated Facts about patterns of inheritance ***Update November 1st*** We have recently completed a genetics quiz. You will received a mark update this week, which will be the mark on your midterm report card. ***Update October 16th*** Remember that we have our oral unit test on October 21st and 22nd. If you are away on the 22nd be sure to tell me on the 21st so that you can complete your test then. See the handouts page for an overview. ***Update - September 16th*** We will practice using our dichotomous keys this Friday so everyone should have a working copy (i.e., a first draft) ready by then. You will then have the weekend to fix any problems with your keys that you might discover. On Monday you must hand in your key to me and I will approve it for use during Wednesday's Bell Ringer. If I don't get a key on Monday then you will have to complete the bellringer without one. ***Update - September 14th*** We will be working on our dichotomous keys for the bellringer for two days this week. - Period A's: in computer lab 206 on Tuesday and Thursday - Period C's: in library on Wednesday and Thursday ***Update - September 9th*** Please remember to bring signed General Policy Sheets to class on Thursday. Also, remember to write your three discussion questions. We will be in the library on Thursday. *****Update August 27th***** Welcome back to Cawthra! Please print out the General Policy Sheet from the Science webpage, get it signed and return it to Ms. McLeod ASAP. We will be going to the library in the first week back to choose TED.com lectures for the Monday Discussion project.
