Introduction
Welcome to the 2009-10 school year.
Here are a few areas to note and how things are organized this year for students
.
Grade 9
Instructors are Randolph Swyer and Scott Sprague. The focus of the year is a general introduction of some areas of theatre studies. We will begin with Movement for the Actor which will dove tail for our first guest artist on the Laban Technique. Then we will explore basic theatre structures like tableaux, working in an ensemble, awareness exercises, voice work for the actor, a quick study of Greek Theatre, Improvisation (with guest artist), and social awareness as explored in theatre structures. Crew hours mandatory.
Advice to Grade Nines:
Use your new long lunch period to your advantage.
Communicate with your drama teacher whenever you feel you the need.
Learn about Sears, the plays, Soul Pepper field trips.
Sign up for crew hours.
Read as many plays as you possibly can. We have many in the library and in the drama department.
Visit Theatre Books downtown.
Go see theatre (besides musicals).
Learn to use your commute time effectively.
Grade 10
is taught by Stacey Tiller and
Grade Eleven
by Scott Sprague. See their TeacherWeb sites for more details.
Drama Council
Drama Council consists of Senior and Junior representative who will organize the internal support for all our productions. The council will also help administer crew hours and offer feedback for the year end drama awards. Information on our Drama Awards will be available later in the year as we are revisiting our categories and criteria.
Footloose
This year's musical is
Footloose
directed by Stacey Tiller. Auditions happen right away so be prepared. For further information check out Ms. Tiller's TeacherWeb.
Sears Prefest and Sears
Check out my page on Sears. This is the most important theatrical event the drama department organizes as it is entirely student run. I will oversee this years efforts.
Mad Forest
This year's play will be directed by Scott Sprague.
New York Trip
Senior students have signed up for the New York trip. The drama department organizes a major trip every second year.
Showcases
New this year is our attempt to showcase all four years through our Winterfests and Springfests.
Grade 12
The first semester swings from monologue work to intimate and larger ensemble work. RAP Tour is our school's most important tool for reaching students in grade seven and eight who may want to follow their course of study in the arts. Guest Artists are regularly brought in to coach one-on-one with students' work. The final exam is Theatre Lives: Look now for a biography on a prominent person in the Arts whose story you want to tell.
