Thursday Dec. 12 2007 Today you will explore different post secondary options. Go into Handouts Careers- you may choose to complete EITHER worksheet: "Apprenticeship/Trades/Work" OR "College/University worksheet". - For those of you completeing the Apprenticeship/Trades/Work worksheet, you will go on www.makingmyway.ca. - For those completing the College/University worksheet, you will navigate on http://www.careercruising.com. Enter the username "Peel" and the password ________. Then click onto "Education" and then onto "Search for schools." Search and complete the worksheet.
December 7 2007 Below is a list of all the Personal Profile assessments we have done in class. You may use other ones that are in your notebook or that you have found online.
December 4 2007 Today you will write your cover letter. A cover letter accompanies a formal job application. You are to open the "cover letter template" found under "Handouts Careers". Remember this is a template and you are entering your own information so be sure to DELETE ANY INSTRUCTIONS that are written on the template. Save it as a word document. Once you have completed it, you and a classmate must peer edit each other's cover letter. The peer edit form is also in "Handouts Careers". Your cover letter will be written for a job you have in mind- something that interests you! Reminder: Your resume, cover letter (including peer edit forms for both) are due on FRIDAY December 7th! If you have completed all steps, you may work on your Personal Profile.
December 3 2007 Today you will write your resume. You are to open the template found under "Handouts Careers". Anything written in red will be replaced by your own information and words. You may choose to alter the template to your taste but all the required information MUST be there. Once you have completed it, you and a classmate must peer edit each other's resume. The peer edit form is p. 61 of your notebook. Remember, your resume is due this Friday, Dec. 7th. You will also submit the peer edit form with your resume. Once completed, you may work on your Personal Profile.
November 27 2007 Good morning! Today you will navigate online to identify some careers that might interest you. Go onto http://www.careercruising.com. Enter the username "Peel" and the password written on the blackboard. Once you've entered the site, click on "career matchmaker" on the left. Then enter your name, and proceed to answer the 39 questions it will ask. Afterwards, you will be given a list of possible career matches for you. Investigate these and collect data for the three that interest you most. You will enter your data on the "Career Cruising worksheet" found under "Career Handouts". Remember to save your work- this will be for your Personal Profile assignment. Have fun!
November 23 2007 So this is probably your first visit here- Welcome! Today you will be writing your Mission Statement. This will then be part of your Personal Profile. Today, at the end of class you must show me your completed mission statement. You will find the step by step process by clicking on "Mission Statement Tutorial" under "Careers Handouts" of my teacherweb. As you follow the steps, you will need to have a Word document open to type in your thoughts. Remember to save on the G drive (the one with your student #) otherwise all will be lost!! Go to it!

Week of October 1st-5th On Monday and Tuesday we are in the computer lab. You will type your resume and cover letter and go through a peer editing process. Note: Both the resume and cover letter are due this Thursday, October 4th. Once this is completed, you have plenty of other things to do! What else? Well.... run through this check list and see if you have completed it all: 1) What do I have left to do for my Personal Profile? (due October 10)
Get these things done now, while you have time in the lab and then you don't have to worry about it when you have a lot of other assignments due!!! If you are done all that...Congrats! Week of September 24-28th Thanks to all those who contributed to the Tuesday Terry Fox bakesale!! Big thanks to Jessica, Kendra, Christian, Kate and Hannah :) REMEMBER: Bring in your Terry Fox permission slips and donations! Deadline is Friday Sept. 28th!!! Note: Friday, we will meet in class and then all go outside together for the Terry Fox run. At 2:30 pm, everyone will return to class where we will celebrate the day! This week we will learn about... - resumes- different types & how to write one - transferable and "employability" skills- (how to show evidence of your skills and experience on a resume) - entrepreneurship - workplace safety
September 21 2007 We are meeting in the computer lab today to complete your mission statement and to work on your personal profile. Please go into "Careers handouts" to see the electronic versions of the personal profile assignment (including a recording sheet, the instructions and the rubric).
