Gr. 9 French Applied

Week of October 29th- November 2nd

This week students will:

• continue to learn passé composé with avoir, including some irregular verbs
• work on one of their Unit 2 tasks- the movie poster with a partner
• present brief dialogues to the teacher
• attend a presentation by an author as part of Cawthra's UROC week (Tuesday)
• have a quiz on passé composé verbs with avoir on FRIDAY Nov. 2

Week of October 15th-19th

As per the class vote, our Unit 1 test will be on Wednesday October 17th.  There will be listening and writing parts and the test will include:

• present tense verbs- regular and irregular
• questions
• adjectives
• reflexive verbs

Our next unit of study is entitled "La télévision et les films."   Using tv and film as a theme we will learn new vocabulary and how to speak and write in the past tense.

 Week of October 9-12th

This week you will complete your final task- the superhero story in class on Wednesday.

On Friday there will be a quiz on reflexive verbs.  Ex Je me lave/ Tu te laves / Il se lave/ Nous nous lavons/ Vous vous lavez/ Ils se lavent.

We will also work on our class mind map to improve the connections we make between words and ideas and our ability to create sentences.

Week of October 1- 5

This week our focus is the final unit task: Your superhero story.  You will have time to work on your story every day in class.  You will be expected to complete the sentences and illustrations for your story by Friday.

We will also be learning about reflexive verbs- those verbs where the action is done to oneself.  Remember they all start with "se".  For example: "se laver" "se brosser" "se coucher"

Week of September 24-28th.

There are many changes to our regular schedule this week due to the late start on Tuesday and the Terry Fox run on Friday.... but... one thing stays the same- we will have a quiz on Friday!

What will the quiz be about?

•  les verbes Vouloir, Pouvoir, Devoir, Savoir- ensure that you know:

a) how to conjugate these verbs in the present tense & b) what they mean so that you can choose which verb to use in a sentence

• les questions- know the question words- Qui, Qu', Quand, Où, Pourquoi, Comment, Combien de & Quel

a) know how to translate them into English & b) recognize the hints given in an answer so that you can choose the appropriate question word (just like we have been doing in class)
