• Exam starts next Monday and lasts for 5 days. It will involve neither Flash nor video.

----------
June 2nd
• Flash resumes continued
• There is a hardcore group of about 4 students who are asking the exact same question multiple
times every day for over a week now. Once and for all, an "on(release)" handler can only be applied
to a button and NOT to a frame. You can't "release" a frame. You "release" mouse buttons. 99% of
the errors that I have seen so far have been of this type...where you've applied the actionscript to
the frame and not the actual button.
• AAAHHH!!!
• By the way, the answer to May 27th's reference is "The Backyardigans". They sing a song called
BOINGA with Alicia Keys. Congratulations to Valerie Ho. She has won the (non-existent) prize.

----------
May 30th

• Be the first to tell me what the previous line is referencing and win a prize.**
• PONG is due tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28th, end of class.

**there may not actually be a prize, but I'll be impressed and isn't that prize enough?

----------
May 26th
• Knock, knock. Who's there? PONG! PONG who? Just PONG, man. This ain't no knock, knock joke.

----------
May 6th
• Editing of video projects continued.

----------
May 5th
• Quick demo of iMovie work areas - Viewer, Bin, and Timeline.
• Non-linear editing is cut&paste editing, equivalent to cutting and pasting words in a word
processing application. You can copy, cut, move around, highlight, and format the video just
like you can do the same thing to the words in software such as Micro$oft Word.
• When Chute was in college, he had to edit tape-to-tape (linear editing). What a pain.
• Most groups continuing editing (non-linear)
• Some groups shooting pickups

----------
May 2nd
• Principal shooting should be done by end of today's period. That means the bulk of your shooting
is to be finished by today. There will almost certainly be pickups required later.
• IT IS NOT FILM AND YOU ARE NOT FILMING! IT IS TAPE AND YOU ARE TAPING!

----------
May 1st
• 6/7 groups shooting. One group continues to be hamstrung by absences.
• Generally productive day for most groups. Shots are much better in terms of framing.
• IT IS NOT FILM AND YOU ARE NOT FILMING! IT IS TAPE AND YOU ARE TAPING!

----------
April 30th
• 6/7 groups shooting. Check that, 5/7 groups shooting. One group hamstrung by absences and
the other by being unable to punch out a script.
• Reviewed some footage as it came in via iMovie.
• Watch your headroom (not too much).
• Move the camera to different locations. You are not watching a play.
• IT IS NOT FILM AND YOU ARE NOT FILMING! IT IS TAPE AND YOU ARE TAPING!

----------
April 29th
• What an eye opening day for me...
• 5/7 groups shooting.  Shooting? Yes. Productive? No.
• 1 group giggling when it sees itself on camera...kind of like when they were 8 years old.
• 1 group arguing amongst itself, despite lobbying to choose their own group members. Might I
suggest that one be careful what one wishes for?
• 1 group still trying to punch out a script and storyboard despite having 33% more group members.
• 1 student asserted that s/he is not going to be a "movie-tician"...not 100% sure what that is,
but I'm glad they are not pursuing it. Perhaps "dance-tician" will be more lucrative.
• 1 student mournfully stated that this project was exactly like Media Arts...despite being a different
course, different teacher, different semester, different academic perspective, different topic,
different students, different procedures, different expectations, different concept, different marking
criteria, and different groups...but otherwise EXACTLY THE SAME!
• Very close to pulling the plug on this assignment for some groups, make them eat the zero, and
then move on to something else. Too bad really. This has traditionally been a project favourite
amongst your demographic. But, every class is different.
• Principal shooting is to be finished by the end of Friday's class. Good luck.

----------
April 28th
• Scripts and storyboards continued.
• 5/7 groups have been authorized to shoot starting tomorrow.
• Viewed Hot Docs documentary "Kids + Money".

----------
April 25th
• Scripts and storyboards continued...put it in high gear please. Don't worry about specific music
selections at this point...just get a general idea. You need to be out shooting now.
• 3 groups finished and are now authorized to go out shooting.

----------
April 24th
• Scripts and storyboards continued...put it in high gear please.
• 2 groups finished and are now authorized to go out shooting.

shots in the various movie trailers. Use several movies to find the shots. Take a screen shot
(Shift+Command+3 or Shift+Command+4) and place the picture in an Illustrator document
with a label of what each shot is. An example is on the Downloads page.

• Traditional style comp should be done by now. DO NOT MAKE IT MORE COMPLEX THAN IT IS
SUPPOSED TO BE. Traditional cards are really simple.
• Many of you are producing modern cards that are closer to traditional style that a truly
contemporary style. Many of you seem to be afraid to try something a bit outrageous. The idea
behind the contemporary card is that it be memorable. This card represents your whole image.
Make it something that people cannot forget.
