Semester 1

Some Math review at http://www.mathwiz.ca/ Some of Unit 1  .... More will be coming from Strand 1

Classroom Expectations

Respect:
This means respecting others privacy, property, and most of all opinions. When someone is speaking, please be respectful and listen.

Food and drinks:
There will be no food or drinks allowed in the classroom.

Electronic Devices:

No cell phones, walkmans, ipods and other electronics devices are to be used in class.

Assignments:
There will be no late work accepted. Please see me if you were absent for an assignment for a new due date or need to discuss an alternate completion date.  If you were absent on the day an assignment was due, then it is due the first day you return to school.

Tests and Quizzes:
Please be respectful of others around you by not talking during tests and quizzes. If you need something after a test/quiz has started, you need to ask me and not your neighbour. If you are going to be away for a test date you will need to arrange to write ahead of time.  If you are absent on a test/quiz date,  you need to see me on the next day you are in school to arrange to write the test/quiz.

Lateness and Absences:
Excessive lateness and absences will be dealt with on an individual basis. If you are absent for a class, you need to see me to find out what you missed.

Participation:
You will need to participate in class. Math is not a spectator sport. This means sharing your ideas, opinions, and answers and actively listening to others ideas, opinions, and answers. The more input you put into class, the more enjoyable it will be.

Be Prepared for Class:

You will always need a pencil, eraser, ruler,  paper, textbook, scientific calculator, and your planner (agenda).

Extra Help:

Extra help should be sought early.  Do not let difficulties go on until they become major problems.  See me for extra help during and outside of class.  Extra help is also available in the Math help room during lunch periods.

Revised Outline is below.  Semester 2 of last Year has been left on to show whats to come.

You will be writing 3 tests .... one for each of the 3 strands.

Systems (including Analytic Geometry and Systems of Equations)

Quadratics (the quadratic function, solving quadratic equations, graphing parabolas)

Trigonometry (similar triangles, the 3 basic trigonometric ratios, right triangles, sine law, cosine law)

Various assignments and quizzes will be given in each strand .. Tests will have a weight of 10 and other items will weigh less.

Student MUST have a scientific calculator!!!
