--------------------------------------
1. Do I need to have a uniform?
Yes. All students are expected to wear the same Cawthra uniform in each
class. The Cawthra shorts and t-shirt can be used for all courses except the
grade eleven and tweleve 'for men only' courses have a different t-shirt.
All t-shirts and shorts are $15.00 each.
--------------------------------------
2. When do I need to have a uniform?
All studnets are expected to have their respective uniform usually within a
week of the course starting. However, should a student have difficulty in
meeting this requirement they are to speak with their teacher to make
alternative arrangements.
--------------------------------------
3. Why do I need to do the daily warm-up?
When class is scheduled for the gym that class will involve a high level of
activity. A warm-up is essential to injury prevention: for muscles, tendons,
ligaments, and joints.
--------------------------------------
4. Do I need to have a shower after class?
This is a personal choice but it is highly recommended. After most classes
students sweat because the have been engaged in alot of activity. Bacteria
grows exponentially given the right conditions: warm, moist and dark. After
activity these conditions exist at all the predictable parts of the body.
Body odour is the result of bacteria growth. Showering will eliminate or
greatly reduce these conditions for bacteria to grow.
--------------------------------------
5. Why is it recommended to have 'running shoes' just for gym class?
Again this is a personal choice, but for the same reasons as the need to have
a shower after activity; to wear the same shoes all day and use them for gym
class only increases bacteria growth and foot odour.
--------------------------------------
6. Can I bring and use my 'Ipod' in class?
On weight training days in the exercise room this is permissable with teacher
permission. However for regular classes in the gym, students should not
bring these devices. They can not be worn during activity for safety
reasons. This would include the warm-up for these days because after the warm-
up there is no place to store them.
--------------------------------------
7. Are the change rooms safe for my valuables?
Some security is provided by the change rooms being locked up at the
beginning of each class and not being re-opened until the end of class.
However, students are always advised not to bring anything of value to the
change rooms (eg. cell 'phones, music listening devices, money, wallets, etc.)
--------------------------------------
8. Do I get time to change?
When the bell rings to dismiss a class, students have 7 minutes to get to
their gym class, change, and be in the gym ready to warm-up. After seven
minutes the change room doors are locked and the warm-up begins. When the
warm-up begins, you are late if you are not in the gym ready to do the warm-
up.
--------------------------------------
9. Do I have to be in class for classes in the swimming pool?
All students are expected to be in attendance for classes conducted in the
swimming pool. Reasons such as: my swim suit is packed away for the winter
or I don't know how to swim; are not acceptable. There exist the odd student
who for medical reasons may not be able to participate. This is
understandable and other accommodations will be made when a medical note is
received by the teacher.
