| Grade 11 Photo students
Welcome!!!
Fees due (cheque please) on the 14th of Feb. in class
-also due are signed course sheets and the important permission to borrow
sheets.
If students wish me to look at their cameras I am available after school in
room 100 or room 109. I am unable to service cameras but can give advice on
changing batteries and cleaning lenses etc. If cameras have been sitting
unused for an extended period of time then a quick check is often helpful in
advance.
The first unit is on Composition and Design. There will be some small in-
class activity sheets for submission. The second is on getting to
know the camera parts and safe operation of the camera. There will be
a "pop" quiz and then a Unit 1 test on the Parts of the Camera, which will
involve diagrams labels and basic camera operations, including exposure and
depth of field. Students are required to do well on this test to ensure
proper handling of loaned camera equipment.
Feb. 20 08
Students should have written a Pop quiz on the parts of the camera and have
received it back marked. They have notes from which to study and review for
the Unit #q test on Feb. 27 The test covers: proper and safe care and
handling of the camera, parts of the camera, operation of the camera, use of
depth of field, aperature, and shutter speed, calculating correct exposure,
and the relationship between camera parts and the human eye. There are fill
in the blanks as well as short answers and diagram labels.
Students have been asked to bring in to class three non-valuable items with
three levels of opacity, transparency and translucency. We
will have a learning skills check for this on Friday. Students are reminded
that these objects should be based upon a theme and that the title for their
composition should be thoughtful and thought-provoking. It has been
suggested that items straight out of one's pocket do not always have visual
interest. Photograms will stress composition and will serve as a basic
introduction to the darkroom.
