Welcome back! I look forward to a creative semester! 'Just a reminder that a
studio fee of $65.00 is due for this course. Students will, upon payment,
receive a black hardcover 8.5 X 11 sketchbook for their sketchbook
assignments, but will need to supply their own if any other type is
preferred. Names must go prominently on the outside! All work must be
affixed inside these for progress checks and evaluations.
Sept 09 09 09!
Students have their first "Art Matters" sketchbook piece due on the 29th of
September. They have begun some process rough work and are thinking around
the September sparkword/topic "Solid". We will continue to research and
examine ideas, materials and artwork around this topic.
Students are asked to bring a shading pencil and an eraser on Monday,as well
as an object (not valuable or breakable), for still life drawing. This object
should be human-made.
Sept.15 09
Students are working on their process work for their sketchbooks. They have
a Progress Check Interview in class on Monday the 21st. They are to come to
class with all their required rough work as indicated on their evaluation
sheet. They are to bring items for still life on Wednesday the 16th for a
learning skills check.
Sept 17,09
We have been multi-tasking! Today we began our drawing portfolio of various
review/diagnostic drawings worth 30 marks (on the purple half sheet rubric).
These are preparatory work,(students have brought their objects in to
class). The sustained still life object drawing is worth 50 marks. This
drawing has not been begun yet and students are thinking about their choice
of object.
Sketchbooks are after Friday the 18th, to be done at home. Friday we working
on sketchbook research on computers.
Sept. 22 09
Happy Fall!
Students will complete and submit all foundations drawing portfolio work on
Wednesday of next week (30th). The last in-class day for this is the
Tuesday. We begin the sustained drawing on Thursday, so object choices
should be finalized. * Reminder that all artist statements should not exceed
one word-processed half page, and that these are due with the finished
sketchbook piece on the 28/29th.
Sept. 29 09
Progress check for sketchbook work topic "Liquid" is due In-class on October
5th. After this day work must be checked by apointment. Final sketchbook
pieces are due on the 30th of October or the 2nd of November. This work is
homework.
Oct. 01 09
Students are reminded that progress check work for the October sketchbook
assignment is due in classs on Oct.05. Topics options have been expanded to
inclued "supress excess" and "remembrance" themes.
October 02 09
Late breaking news - sketchbook process work has been extended to Tuesday!
Oct.13 09
Trip forms are due this Friday. Any entries for the "Supress Excess" theme
are due on the 10th of November and must have a word-processed artist
statement.
We are finished our drawing unit and rubrics/artist statements are due on
Wednesday. Studio time is available at lunch.
Bookmarks are due at the end of class on Friday. Students will need to do
some work on them as homework.
Oct. 16 09
Work for Monday in the lab - to be done there.
1. Go on-line to sort your method of transportation home from the trip.
Check schedules and prices for TTC, Mississauga Transit and GO. There is a
map at the Toronto International Art Fair site.
2. Read the assignment sheet for our Remembrance Day project. Go to the
Canadian War Museum site on the handout sheet and look at the exhibition info.
3. Research for images for above assignment, ie., how does a dove look in
flight? Make a sketch in your sketchbook as the basis for your assignment.
4. If time permits go to the web site of a post secondary institution that
you are interested in researching.
5.You can also look at artist statements on-line if time permits - sites on
the board.
Oct 21 09
We are multi-tasking as we begin our Remembrance Day pieces and prepare for
visiting artist Jane Mothersell. Students should be dressed for all weather
over the next weeks, as we may be out of doors. Smocks will be available,
but on a limited basis and old clothes are recommended. Some students hae not
yet returned field trip permission forms.
Oct. 26th
We are working with Jane on our landscape paintings. Old clothes are good if
you are messy. We are mostly indoors painting now. Students may wish to
print their own digital photos of their site or work from images provided in
class. We have been to the TIAF and MOCCA and Edward Day and have submitted
our observations assignment. Studios open at lunch.
Collage pieces are due Nov 06 and may be done at home. There will be
limited time in class after next week.
Supress Excess pieces are due with all paperwork completed by the 10th and no
later. No incomplete submissions will be accepted.
October 28 09
We are painting in preparation for a landscape gallery in room 109 next
Monday.
For this reason, sketchbook assignments are extended until the 13th of
November.
November 13 09
Sketchbook progress work is due on Nov. 30 09. Final "Gas" sketchbook work
is due on Dec. 14 09. Students have had notification that a written
assignment will be due on the 4th of December and to plan accordingly. A
test on Art History will take place next week on the 20th of November.
Dec. 03 09
Students have completed a rough outline of their essay topic and had it
progress checked in class.
Students have peer edited their essays in class and are "polishing" final
versions for the 4th. Progress work for the sketchbook assignment should have
been checked by me on Monday. Students have been introduced to a new studio
project using non-traditional media. This project is to be completed in
class only and is due on the 16th of December.
Final finished sketchbook pieces are due on the 14th of Dec. -- please bring
word-processed artist statements at his time.
Dec. 17 09
Students are working on their wearable accessories projects. They have an in-
class extension for two days upon return after the holidays. They could
take digital photos of their pieces upon completion, in order to use in a
digital portfolio. They have been reminded to organize their notebook over
the holidays, in preparation for exams.
Jan 05 2010
Students are finishing their wearable accessories in a non-traditional
material. They have been given a two page review sheet for the written final
assessment in order to prepare in advance. An in-class review will take
place on the 7th of Jan. Projects for studio work are due on the 8th at the
end of class. Printed atist statements (1 paragraph) are required and
should be prepared in advance of this day. The studio final assessment will
be introduced on the 11th of Jan.
