Sketchbooks
Grade 10's first assignment will be on the topic of "rocks",which we have
already done the brainstorming for in class. Sketchbooks are bi-weekly and
the first on is due on the 22nd of Feb. -- "spark" words for the rest of the
year are listed below:

One page of rough brainstorming/sketches is expected for each topic.
Students may select topics in any order. The due dates are as follows

June 06 is an optional "make-up" sketchbook date -- no sketchbooks after
this date!
Grade 11's
Sketchbooks are due monthly, on the last in-class day of the month -- the
first topic being due on the 29th of Feb.
The topic for the month of Feb is Still Life/Objects.
Grade 12's will complete a piece from the post-secondary portfolio
applications assignment. It will be due also on the 29th of Feb.
Grade 10 and 11's
First project Portfolio Drawings will be due on Friday Feb 22.
Grade 11's and 12's are also working on Exquisite Corps drawings, due on
Friday the 15th at the end of class.
Grade 10's
Students have been asked to bring an organic object ( plum etc.) for
drawing. They have signed up for an object and should bring it to school in
saran or in a baggie for Friday. Please no nuts!
Grade 11'sand 12's are working on portfolio drawings and should now have had
their first progress check for their monthly sketchbook assignment.
Feb. 21 08
Grade 11's and 12's
Students are reminded of the following:
1. Please bring in a frontal face shot of yourself that is close to the 4 X
6" size for Monday for our next unit.
2. Intro drawing portfolios are on their last in class day on Friday 22nd.
They are due on Tuesday -- the studio is open at lunch on Mon. and Tuesday.
3. Students are to bring in their own old make-up. Please keep in a baggie
with your name on it.
Feb 26 08
Grade 11's and 12's are looking at post secondary arts-related options. We
are getting ready to begin a unit on Portraiture on Thursday. Students are
reminded to bring in a photo of themselves!
Grade 10's have begun their Organic unit. A few students still need to
bring in their objects and are reminded to bring them in!
March 05
Grade 10, 11 and 12 classes have a quiz on Thursday the 6th, as announced
earlier this week.
April 3, 08
Grade 10 students have their abstract paintings due today. This ends our unit
on abstraction. We begin a new unit on clay on Monday and they are asked to
bring a milk or juice carton to school with them on Monday. Sketchbooks are
not due until the 18th.
Grade 11/12
Students have finished the media trials and are now working on the final
portrait. The due date is next Thursday the 10th. Sketchbook topics of
Place and Social Commentary have been introduced and the progress
check/proposals are due next Wednesday the 9th. Grade 12's have an
independent topic. Comparative essay topics for the grade 12's are coming
soon! Self portraits are due on next Thursday the 10th of April at the start
of class.
Students are encouraged to arrange for extra studio time at lunch or after
school if needed.
April 23 08
Studens in grade 11 have a gallery review assignment due on the 9th of May.
Their last sketchbook
assignment is due on the 30th of April. Food as Art proposals are due on the
2nd of May. The final
project will be due in class on the 15th of May and nt later as they will e
part of the Springfest show.
Artist statements as well as a list of ingredients must be word processed and
accompany the piece in
order for it to be shown! Review letters are due May 6th.
April 24 08
Grade 12's met yesterday and organized many due dates. They are as follows:
CCCT gallery notes April 23rd
Essay rough skelatons - Friday 25th April
Final essays May 6th
Independant sketchbook assignments for Springfest May 9th
In-class fabric "Scapes" print May 13th.
May 06 08
Students are encouraged to track all assignment dates in their agenda.
Grade 10 students have finished their ceramic slab construction projects and
are beginning a new unit on acrylic landscape paintings. They have a break
on their sketchbook assignments as sketchbooks will be on display for our
Springfest on the 15th of May.
Grade 11 students are busy on their gallery review letters and their Food as
Art assignments. They are also working on their major unit printmaking
project which is due on the 13th of May.
Grade 12 students are working on their independent assignments for Springfest
and are to have shown me their work in progress as of yesterday. At this
point all request for materials and space/lighting should be specified and
run past the instructor as last minute requests cannot be granted.
Friday May 23 08
Grade 11/12
Students are finishing their print project and will submit them today.
Grade 10 students have a sketchbook due on the 30th of May. It is their last
sketchbook assignment. They are finished their experimental techniques acrylic
sheet and will submit for a mark out of 18. We are finishing a colour review
drawing worth 10 marks. We are also working on a plein air acrylic painting
piece - no date yet!
May 30 08
Students are preparing for their final written summative on Tuesday the 10th
of June. We will be beginning our final practical summatives next week and
students will need to be present.
