Elementary Schools Closed - Friday, January 11, 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have been informed by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) that elementary teachers and Designated Early Childhood Educators at all public elementary schools throughout the province will be holding a day of political protest on Friday, January 11, 2013.
As a result of this withdrawal of services by teachers and Designated Early Childhood Educators, all SCDSB elementary schools will be closed to students for one day on Friday, January 11, 2013. Child care centres will remain open only for children already registered in those programs. Before-and-after school programs will not be open in these school buildings on Friday. School buses will not be transporting students to public elementary schools on Friday, January 11.
Schools will re-open on Monday, January 14.
We sincerely apologize for the interruption to student achievement as a result of this political protest organized by the teachers’ union.
We will continue to relay information through the following communications avenues:
SCDSB Website: www.scdsb.on.ca SCDSB Facebook: www.facebook.com/SCDSB SCDSB Twitter: @SCDSB_Schools SCDSB Recorded Announcement: 1-877-728-1187

Yours truly,

New! Families Can Access School-age Care Programs on PA Days and Holidays at Schools
The Simcoe County District School Board is pleased to announce that families will be able to access school-age child care programs on non-instructional days (PA days and school holiday breaks) across Simcoe County. The for-fee programs have been planned throughout the region at specific public schools. Families from any school board are encouraged to register their children to attend the program on non-instructional days at the designated public school site closest to their home school.
“The public school board is delighted to offer this option to families in our region,” states Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, Simcoe County District School Board. “We encourage families who require care for their elementary school-aged children on PA days and during school breaks to register soon.”
Registration for PA days and school holiday breaks has started and families are encouraged to contact the child care providers listed here to coordinate registration in advance. The fee is $33.50 per day.
“We are working closely with our community partners, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, York Professional, S.E.E.D.S. Child Care and Upper Canada Child Care Centres, in providing this valuable service to families of school-aged children in our communities,” states John Dance, Superintendent of Facility Services, Simcoe County District School Board.

Dogs on the Property
Please remember that dogs are not allowed on schoolproperty except for service dogs. Also, we have a number of people who ‘walk’ their dogs on property after hours and do not clean up after them. Responsible dog owners always “poop & scoop”. It is very upsetting to students when they walk through what is left behind. Please do not bring your dog on school property. You can arrange to meet your child just off the edge of the property.
