"When I am working on a problem I never think about beauty. I only think about how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong"
Buckminster Fuller
What is it about Pyramids?
" The new entrance to the Paris Louvre had become almost as famous as the museum itself. The controversial, neomodern glass pyramid designed by IM Pei still evoked scorn from traditionalists who felt it destroyed the dignity of the renaissance courtyard. Goethe had described architecture as frozen music and Pei’s critics described this pyramid as fingernails on a chalkboard. Progressive admirers, though hailed Pei's seventy-one-foot-tall transparent pyramid as a dazzling synergy of ancient structure and modern method - a symbolic link between old and new - helping usher the Louvre into the next millennium."
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown

Outdoor and indoor rooms
Social
Comfort
Privacy
Shelter
Family

Refer to the questions on the website for Artforms
Pay particular attention to the characteristics and questions relating to current designers and architectural thought.

D e s i g n P r o b l e m:
“Found Object”
|
|
So much of what we do in Design Classes involves the exploration of ideas through theoretical projects that will never be built. In this project, working in groups of 3 you will have an opportunity to explore your creativity and actually build something that works.
It works
Is creative
Conforms to a specific idea or theme
Would never be sold by Home Depot
(or any other big box store) in it’s finished state
Is made out of “found” or “scrounged” materials
You will be evaluated by your peers based on the following criteria:
Creativity /10
Function /10
Aesthetics /10
