September 5, 2013
Welcome to a new and exciting school year! We are presently organizing ourselves, learning classroom procedures, routines, work habits, and new skills, etc. Now that students are starting to get settled and organized, it is time to provide you with some information about our class.
Parents, please ensure all homework assignments are completed and your child is prepared for the next day, well-rested, at school on time, and most importantly, has eaten a healthy breakfast.
You are also receiving some forms (Medical, Phys. Ed., Internet, Media) to be completed by this coming Monday.
AGENDA -The agenda is one of the most important items that will serve as a communication tool between the classroom and the home. It is to be signed by parents every time it is sent home and is meant to keep you informed in regards to your child’s homework assignments or any other communication from the classroom/school.
HOMEWORK -Effective this week homework has been assigned to your child. We will have a weekly French spelling test every Thursday. Your child has been provided with a French spelling list for the year. The French spelling test is not just a spelling test but will also use to work on grammar concepts and syllables, etc. Please have your child practise the words during the week. Our first dictée will begin on Thursday, September 12 and thereafter every Thursday.
From time to time, I will be sending some work that has not been completed in class so that your child has an opportunity to stay on track. For your information, a homework website is set and running. You can get to the site at the following address: http://teacherweb.com/ON/JohnFisherJuniorPS/MmeJetha/
SCHOLASIC ORDER- Please ensure that you make the cheque payable to Scholastic every time you order (one cheque is sufficient for all your orders to Scholastics). I will not be accepting any cash. The orders will be collected on Mondays after the flyers have been sent home on Thursday.
LIBRARY- The class goes to the Library on Day 4.
ITEMS FOR THE CLASSROOM
To help organize your child, here are some suggestions of materials that would be helpful:
- HB pencils – send a couple
- Erasers – send a couple
- A box of coloured markers and coloured pencils (crayons)
- A SOFT zippered pencil case that will fit all the markers/pencils
- A good quality pencil sharpener with a lid
- A box of Kleenex
- 1 Glue stick (we will use many glue sticks throughout the year)
- A junior French dictionary, for example: Le Robert Junior for home use (Scholastics was $25.95 last year).
- A verb book, like the Bescherelle, L’art de conjuguer, dictionnaire de 12 000 verbes (Scholastics $14.99) – See Club de Lecture that will be sent next week.
Your child is required to have indoor shoes as well. Thanks to those parents who have already sent them to school.
These last item can be purchased through Scholastics on the September order or both items can be purchased at French educational Supply Company located at 2775 Dundas Street West and at The World's Largest Book Store just North of Dundas Street off of Yonge Street. Chapters may carry them too.
It is strongly recommended that your child read in French and watch some French TV, like TFO (the French TVO), an educational channel every day. Your child should also practise math tables (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), and cursive writing.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with me. I am looking forward to an excellent year. Finally, I invite you to attend our “Curriculum Night” in September (date to be announced). I am looking forward to meeting you soon and working with you collaboratively to help your child succeed! Please share any information regarding your child’s special needs that will help me better serve your family. Communication among school and home is critical in assuring your child’s success together we can provide the best educational experience for your child’s achievement.
