School Council Newsletter

LegacyP.S.SchoolCouncil News

Our inaugural year at LegacyPublic School is over and it has been a busy one for administration, staff and the school council. We would like to thank principal Paul Carew, the Legacy teaching staff, and the support staff for the endless dedication and commitment that they have given to students at Legacy Public School.  They are creating the foundations of a truly exceptional learning environment for the students and leaving a genuine "Legacy".

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the families who participated in the first school council fundraiser – the Chocolate Drive, as well as the families who have participated in the Pizza Lunch program.  Our profit from the Chocolate Drive combined with revenue from the Pizza Lunch program amounts to approximately $15,500.

We are pleased to advise that some of the funds raised will be used to:

A.                 Provide for the initial set up of shared Primary/Junior Literacy Bookrooms.

B.                 Provide additional musical instruments.

C.                 Provide funds to set up an awards program for students graduating from Grade 8.

In the Fall there will likely be an opportunity to purchase additional computers through the York Region District School Board matching program.  As part of this program, York Region will match dollar for dollar the monies raised by the school council, in effect doubling the money available to purchase computers.

Please visit the school’s website to view minutes from school council meetings as well as annual and financial reports, which will be posted on the website by the end of this council’s term (http://teacherweb.com/ON/LegacyPublicSchool/SchoolNews/ap6.stm).

Parents are encouraged to attend our first school council meeting next school year on September 24, 2007.  At this meeting our new school council will be elected by all in attendance.  Nomination forms will be sent home with students early in September.

Parents interested in helping out in other ways may also wish to attend and meet the new school council members.  There will be an opportunity to provide input on new projects and fundraising initiatives.

We welcome and encourage parents to attend our September meeting and to join our team of volunteers to help make LegacyPublic School a great school for our children!!
