FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How does the SK program differ from the JK program? Many parents ask teachers how they design the Kindergarten program to cater and adopt to the Senior Kindergarten children and Junior Kindergarten children and the answers is: the same way we modify our programs in any other grade or class according to student needs, ability levels and varied interests. Schools in York Region are working towards differeniated instruction which gives teachers opportunity to learn how to cater to and meet the varying needs of the individuals in their classrooms. One important thing to keep in mind is that the Kindergarten program is a TWO year program and the Ministry of Education Curriculum expectations for Kindergarten children are goals for children at the end of the TWO year program. Children in the Junior level learn the basic skills required and outline in the ministry documents while the Seniors continue to build on and expand their experience and knowledge in these areas whether they be extension activities, explorating and experimenting activities or review and practice activities. Our goal is to develop confident, independent and capable Kindergarten childen who are ready to handle a full day in grade one. I need some information about busing, where can I look?
