Les petites annonces de la classe de Mme Bélanger

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Dear parents/guardians and students,

Our class is slowly starting to look like a little community.  The routine is well established.  Everyone is taking a more active role in helping each other and the class as a whole.  We have been practicing many skills and learn many concepts the past two months.

This is an overview of units that we will cover for the next few weeks.

Science  with M Lord

In science, we will be completing our first unit on Interactions in the Environment.  We looked at the interactions of plants and animals within ecosystems and we will complete this unit by studying the effects of human activities and technological innovations on ecosystems.  In November we will also start the unit on Pure Substances and Mixtures.

English and Health with Mrs. Martin

The year is moving by so quickly! Now that the new timetable has been put into place, I will be teaching Gr.7C English and Health.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the school. I look forward to working with all of the students and meeting all of you!  This month, we are looking at:

English: Descriptive Reading and Writing (focusing on improving writing by implementing figurative language tools), Independent Reading, Journals, Beginning a Culture/Diversity reading and writing challenge

Health: Healthy Eating, Active Living, Self-Esteem and Body Image

We will continue our Healthy Eating and Living unit in Health class until winter break. Students are encouraged to apply their nutritional learning to their daily lives.

Gymnastique with Mme Bélanger

Students have just completed a unit on Volleyball.  We will start a unit on Physical Fitness and will be  working on a cooperative games unit.

Français with Mme Bélanger

Reading logs continue to be an ongoing part of homework.  Students are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes every night.  The next reading log is due November 30, 2009.

In grammar we are working on editing skills, verbs in the past tense and the according of the adjective.  We are presently working on a unit on legends.  At the end of this unit, students will write their own legend.

Current events are still an ongoing part of our morning routine.  In oral presentation this month, students will  present a current event of their choice to the class.  Encourage them to read the newspaper or to listen to the news.

Mathématiques with Mme Bélanger

We began working  on Data Management. Our class will participate in a Canadian census by answering a series of questions.  We will use this data to interpret the results and to compare our class to students of other provinces.

Histoire  with Mme Bélanger

The first unit of study in history is La vie en Nouvelle-France.  Students will produce pamphlets to encourage people to come to New-France.  They will also learn about the life on a “seigneurie.”

Géographie  with Mme Bélanger

We are presently wrapping up the first unit of Geography   “Five Themes of Geographic Inquiries “. A case study will be given to students on Thursday where they have to identify and explain the factors that are affected by this issue.

Art  with Mme Bélanger

This month, students will produce a self-portrait made of a collage. They will also design a “nonan” art piece , which is a Japanese art form, to show their understanding of negative and positive space.  We are now studying the art of Piet Mondrian.

Students’ portfolio

I keep a portfolio of your child’s tests, assessments and projects in the class.  It is important that they return everything that has been evaluated after you have signed it.  I am missing many pieces of assessment from students.  This portfolio will be used for self-assessment and reflection on their first term.  They will also be shared with you when you come for the student-led conference on Friday, December 4, 2009.  You should expect to have two or three pieces of assessment that need to be signed every week.

Ici on parle Français

One of the French immersion expectations is that students speak only in French in class so they can fully take advantage of the program and become more fluent. A part of the French oral communication evaluation is done through observations in class.

Homework

If you want to view what our class has for homework, go to the Limestone home page at httpp://www.limestone.on.ca , go to school, then on Module Vanier web site and our class 7C.  I update the page daily.

Sincerely,

Yolande Bélanger
