MODULE VANIER |
M Lord - NewsletterFrançais (with M Lord) This past month, we spent a lot of our time on building our skills in conjugating and using verbs in our daily use. We looked at the regular verbs ending in "ir", "oir", and "re". This month we have started to study adjectives. We are now starting some writing assignments where the students will be using the skills that they have learned in class. The next couple weeks, we will concentrate on descriptive paragraphs. In reading, we have just completed the first round of GB+ testing. With the results, we will be reading books that are at a higher level to improve their reading skills. Mathématique (with M Lord) In mathematics, we will be completing the data management portion of the curriculum (Chapter 3 in Accent mathématique) and slowly make our way into patterns and polygon measurements. Science (with M Lord) In science, we will be completing our first unit on Interactions in the Environment. We looked at the interactions of plants and animals within ecosystems and we will complete this unit by studying the effects of human activities and technological innovations on ecosystems. In November we will also start the unit on Pure Substances and Mixtures. Histoire/Géographie (with Mme Swift) We have now finished our first geography unit, and are beginning the history program with the study of La Nouvelle France. We have looked at Samuel de Champlains explorations and his efforts to establish a colony in North America. Students will be learning about the importance of the fur trade in New France, and the relationship between the Europeans and the Native Peoples. We will examine the role of the missionaries and learn about the life of the colonists. Students will be doing a poster project on a person who was important in the development of the colony. Finally we will look at la guerre de Sept Ans and the fall of la Nouvelle France. English (with Ms Richards) In English, we will be starting to learn about memoirs and journal/diary writing with an emphasis on Non-Fiction reading and writing in November. We will then move to comparison writing with the 2010 Olympics as our theme. Health (with Ms Martin) This month we are studying the topics of healthy eating, active living, self-esteem and body image. Students will be setting an annual healthy goal that they are able to complete during the school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school!
