Bonjour!
May is already here! We have
less than 10 weeks before graduation! This is an exciting and very busy time
for grade 8s. Here’s what will happen in the next few weeks.
In French we will be working on
our speeches early in May. The
best speech from our class will present in front of the school on May 15th.
Media will also be a key word this month. To develop our oral and writing
French skills, we will be listening to radio shows and TV news reports before
we start recording our own. This should be a great product to keep in the
memory box!
In Mathematics, we are
developing our number sense, exploring fractions and soon after that, we will
be developing our spatial sense in geometry exploring tessellations.
To wrap up our History unit we
presented our Historica Fair project at the Regional event. Thank you to
parent volunteers who helped me during this busy day. For the rest of the
month we will explore Migration Patterns in Geography. Our final project will
be to build our family tree!
In Science, we introduced our
last strand last week with a CSI game directed by grade 12 students in
Biology. We will be talking about cells, tissues, organisms and systems to
conclude the year.
In
Language, students will be reading science fiction (short stories) and
non-fiction. Our reading comprehension strategy is making inferences (drawing
meaning/coming to a conclusion). We will finish our poetry unit and welcome
parents/guardians/friends to see our wonderful poetry portfolios at the'Arts
Evening' on May 8th. Students will also be writing an explanation piece
(cause and effect) and creating a storyboard. Our Critical literacy topic for
May is Crisis in the news (medical, poverty, oppression).

Sunny days are here but we still
have some work to do before graduation; in class and at home. One of the
benefits that homework gives is a link between school and home.Homework
also provides students with time and experience to develop positive beliefs
about achievement, as well as strategies for coping with mistakes,
difficulties, and setbacks. Thank you for encouraging your son or daughter to
keep up the good work.
If you have further comments or
questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
À bientôt,
Annie-Claude
