Environment Committee Mandate

In collaboration with students and staff of RHC, the Environment Committee will develop and implement environmentally friendly initiatives which will continue to foster environmental awareness in our students and our community.  This commitment will also involve efforts to keep the school grounds neat and clean by educating the students to respect their environment.

Litterless Lunches

For a number of years, Roy H. Crosby has promoted environmental awareness and encouraged the school community to be environmentally responsible. One of the ways we can all help in this regard is making the effort to pack “litter less” lunches for our children.  Many of you are doing this already and we appreciate all of your efforts.  If you are not, please take a few ideas from below and try to incorporate them when you prepare your child’s lunch.  Every little bit helps!

TIP’S FOR PACKING A LITTERLESS LUNCH

-       Buy in bulk. (avoid pre-packaged “convenience”

-       foods)

-       Pack sandwiches, cut up fruits and vegetables, crackers, cookies, yogurt, cheese and other items in reusable containers.

-       Use a refillable juice container. Juice boxes, pouches, or cans cannot be resealed and any excess is just thrown away.

-       If plastic baggies are used make sure they are re-used.  Try to avoid plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

-       Use everyday cutlery from home instead of buying plastic. If plastic is used make sure it is re-used.

-       Pack everything in a reusable lunch bag or box.  Children can then repack uneaten food perhaps to be had later instead of just tossing it into the school’s garbage.

-       Remind your kids to use the Recycling boxes provided at the

school for any recyclable items

By incorporating a few of these ideas into your lunch preparation you can significantly decrease the amount of waste generated at our school, which ultimately ends up in our landfills.
