This week our schedule is going to be a little bit different. Grade 3's are starting EQAO testing this week. Testing will run from May 29th until June 5th. For the most part we will be completing one testing booklet each day, with the exception of one day where we will need to complete both a language and a math booklet on the same day.
The testing is all in ENGLISH. There are only 3 components to the test as well: Mathematics, Language-Reading, Language-Writring. Students in 7D have the ability to do very well on this test, all they need to do is read carefully, clearly communicate their ideas and do their best!
Monday we will be doing some preparing for the test - little things that we will need to know -what to do when you're done? What if your pencil breaks? What if you have to go to the washroom? What if you just don't understand a question? We'll talk about these things and other questions that come up to make sure we have a plan to be successful!.
This is a test that they will need to do entirely independently, to show their best thinking. That means that a teacher cannot even tell a student if they have missed a question, or to check for capitals and punctuation. They will need to remember to use all of their best grade 3 skills reading, writing, thinking, communicating--which they all have and know how to use!
Lastly, I'm sending a note in the agenda as well, but if your child has an activity they can bring in from home (colouring book, activity book, book to read etc.) --no electronics, students will have silent individual free time at their desk once they have finished. This is to ensure that all students have the same quite thinking time for the duration of the testing period --that means we can't all be up and walking around and chatting or even conferencing with the teacher about other projects during this time. If they do not have an activity at home, we always have our classroom library. Don't forget, give them lots of encouragement at home, and help them be prepared to do their best by having a good breakfast and getting plenty of rest! (Even though the weather has been so beautiful it is tempting to stay out later to play!)
So GOOD LUCK Grade 3's! You can do it!
Grade 2's will be having a bit of an adventure this week! During the times that we are writing EQAO, the Grade 2's will be joining other Grade 2 classes for their lessons. As soon as the testing block is over, they will be meeting back up with our class and continuing on for the rest of the day as usual.
Things to remember:
Tuesday - Thursday: EQAO Testing (Grade 3)
Thursday: Library
Friday - PA DAY - NO SCHOOL
Have a great week!
