Homework

Shared Reading

Each week a new poem will be introduced. It will go home on Friday.
Allow your child time to share it with you and your family. Find rhyming
words in the poem. Try to think of more rhyming words.

Borrow-a-Book

Two to three times a week your child will bring home a Borrow-a-Book from
the classroom. Please allow time for your child to read it to you and
return it to school when the finish. We are working on reading with
fluency. Students are working towards scanning text with their eyes across
the page. You can also discuss the main ideas in the story, what the story
reminds the reader of, dicuss the setting or characters. You can also make
connections, or infer the meaning of unfamiliar words, ask questions about
the text, think aloud.

Spelling

Review weekly words. Remember to review words from previous weeks. Weekly
words are in the Agenda Book. Try to use the words to help spell new words.
Your child should be able to spell and recognize all of these words. Try
rhyming words, putting words into sentences, flash cards.

Mathematics

Count with your child. Refer to curriculum expectations on Curriculum
page.

Practice 10 and 2 makes 12, 10 and 4 make 14.

Roll dice and add the numbers up. Try using a deck of cards too.
Encourage your child to put the largest number in their head and count
on.
