Announcements

Awesome October is here! We have been very busy getting to know each other
and learn how to make our classroom run as an efficient learning centre! All
the students are now well aware of my expectations of their behaviour in the
classroom and we have developed our own set of class rules to help guide us
through our day!

This month we will be getting down to business and seeing what kind of work
your children are capable of!

MATH - we will be finishing up unit 1 on patterning and place value and then
moving on to Unit 3 - Geometry. Your child will have math as homework, either
to finish work that was not completed in class or to review skills for
practice. Please use the textbook to help you - each lesson has important
information at the beginning if you need assistance!

LANGUAGE - we are learning how to make connections when we read, and we have
been practising making text to self connections in September, so this month
we are going to practice making comparisons between different texts and to
the world. Your child needs to have some idea of what is going on in the
world around them and should be listening or watching the news to learn about
current events. In writing, we have been reviewing how to correctly write a
sentence and this month we are going to perfect the paragraph!

PHYS. ED - we are going to be focusing on locomotor skills, and ball skills
this month. All students are asked to come to school on gym days dressed
appropriately for class and to have proper footwear. Only running
shoes/sneakers are allowed for phys. ed!

RELIGION/FULLY ALIVE - In Fully Alive we will continue to work on Theme 1 -
Created and Loved by God. In religion, we will be exploring how the Holy
Spirit gathers and feeds us at the Eucharist.

SOCIAL STUDIES - Ms. Strong has been teaching the class about early settlers
to North America and how their lives compare to ours. The students have been
working in centers to increase their knowledge of early pioneer life. We will
enjoy our class trip to the Pickering Pioneer Village on Oct. 3! It is a
great way to see how life would have been like!

Please ensure you are checking your child's agenda on a regular basis and
signing it. With the fall weather now here, all children should have a pair
of indoor shoes to use to help keep our learning environment clean. We are
also going to trying to keep our garbage in the classroom to a minimum, so it
would be very helpful to us if the students could use reusable containers
whenever possible and to bring home items that can be composted, as we do not
have the capability to do that here at St. Pat's. This is going to be a huge
learning curve for everyone and I ask for your continued support as we try to
train the children to think about how their actions have serious consequences
for our planet and that they have the power to make change!
