NOVEMBER'S HOME LEARNING PROJECT: 'I'M JUST GOING TO GRIN
AND "BEAR" IT!'
You and your child are invited to work together to complete this
month's voluntary home learning enrichment project-'I'm Just Going
to Grin and "Bear" It!' project. You and your child will work
together to create an eco-friendly, instructional theme-inspired
felt or fabric bear hand puppet. First, you and your child will
decide upon the type of bear that you wish to create-a polar bear or
a grizzly bear or a black bear. Next, you and your child will
decide upon whether ot use felt or fabric to make your bear hand
puppet. Then, you and your child will make the outline of your
bear's shape onto a piece of paper; which you will use to trace onto
2 pieces of felt or fabric. Using scissors, you and your child will
take turns cutting along the lines of the felt or fabric. You and
your child wil take turns using a needle and tread to stitch
together the 2 pieces of felt or fabric; being certain to leave the
bottom edge open for a hand to fit inside. Then, you and your child
will gather and use various craft materials to decorate the bear;
adding its facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers, ears,
etc.). You and your child will decide whether or not your bear will
be fictional and wear clothing (as in the story, "Goldilocks and the
Three Bears") or will be non fictional and go "bear" (sorry, no pun
intended-bare). You and your child will either use needle and
thread to affix the facial features and such or project glue or hot
glue.
Materials required for the hand puppet bear-either brown or white or
black felt or fabric, sewing needle, thread, tracing paper, project
glue or hot
glue and glue gun, scissors, various craft materials (google eyes,
sequins, scraps/pieces of fabric and/or felt, yarn, ribbon, etc.)
