Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Dear Families of Grade 2/3 Students,

As part of our healthily eating unit we will be recording and analyzing the food we eat in our daily lives. To begin the unit, each student will be provided with a menu planner mat to record their daily intake of food. We have discussed how to fill out the planner and how to divide our meals into the four food groups. Students are required to fill out the planner for 5 week-days (week-ends do not need to be recorded). Recording should begin on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 and end on Monday, February 8th, 2010. Students do not need to bring back the menu planner mat, but instead transfer the information and bring back a paper copy of the menu planner (which is being provided). Students will be expected to bring back the paper version of the menu planner on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010.

Thank you for your on-going support,

Ms. Teja

Pionner Note:

Dear Parents,

The Grade 3’s have been learning about pioneer life.  Over the next few weeks, your child will be doing a project on pioneer life. They will have the opportunity to create a poster, create a comic on bit stripes or write a diary from the point of a pioneer child.  Your child will need to select one these options in order to show their understanding of life in early settler communities.

If your child chooses to create a poster, he/she will need to design a poster that can be used to convince Europeans to move to Upper Canada.  The poster should have information on 3 of the following topics:

food, education, work, transportation, family life, land, or homes.

If your child chooses to create a Bitstrips comic, he/she will need to create a comic that discusses three of the following characteristics of pioneer life: food, education, work, transportation, family life, land, or homes.

If your child chooses to create a diary he or she will need to write one or more diary entries that discusses three of the following characteristics of pioneer life: food, education, work, transportation, family life, land, and homes.

Two work periods will be give for students to work on their project.  Some resources on pioneers will be available for the students, but they are encouraged to do additional research at home.  Once the projects are complete, your child will be asked to present his or her project to the class.  They will have time to work on their presentation in class on

Thursday, February 18, 2010 and Friday, February 19, 2010.

The date of your child’s presentation will be written in his/her agenda.  The presentation dates are from Monday, February 22nd, 2010 to Friday, February 26th, 2010.

Once again, thank you for all of your hard work and support
