Third Trimester Homeroom Grade

I'm changing things up for third trimester in homeroom. No longer will students be required to get a parent signature in the Agenda on Thursday nights. (Note - it is still important for students to USE the agenda and for parents to check that they are, but I will not give credit for the signature.) Students will still get graded on Agenda use and completeness.

In addition, students will be expected to complete 8 hours of community service this term. We will do some of these hours in class together, but some will be outside of class. I am encouraging them to help out a neighbor or a local organization. If a student is having a hard time coming up with ideas for community service, he/she should talk to Beth. There are always things around the school that need to be done.

A third component of the grade will be a class teaching project. Working alone or with a partner, students will teach a lesson to our homeroom. They could teach how to play a game, perform a skill or some other activity of their choice. They will need to submit an outline of the activity to be taught and prepare all of the materials for the class. This will happen during the month of May, and students will sign up for the date that they would like to teach.

Finally, students will still get points for SSR - bringing a book and reading it during homeroom, as well as occasional academic assignments. Students will be awarded participation points for school assemblies, field trips and other events.

I think we will have a fun time during our final months of sixth grade in homeroom!
