Welcome to 6th Grade Language Arts
This fall our class will read the novel, The Cay, by Theodore Taylor. We will study the elements of plot as well as the literary devices of simile, metaphor, personification and symbol. It is a short, fun novel set in the Caribbean during World War II.
In Writing we will review the Writing Process: prewrite, rough draft, revise, edit and publish. We will write a short story about meeting a friend to practice these steps. After that we will review the traits of Ideas and Content, Organization, Word Choice, Voice, Sentence Fluency and Conventions. We will make a flip-book with notes that we can refer to during the year.
Everyday we will work on grammar topics through a quick edit warm-up called MUG (mechanics, usage and grammar) SHOTS.
