Henley Elementary
Mrs. Glasscock’s Kindergarten
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Kindergarten at Henley Elementary! I am very excited about the
coming school year, and look forward to getting to know you and your child.
There are many wonderful things that we will explore and learn in
Kindergarten. I hope to work with you to see that your child gets the most
out of our year together.
Please take the time to read the following information on classroom and
school procedures.
Homework Folder: Beginning the second week of school your child will have a
daily homework folder. There will be a note explaining our homework routines
inside the folder.
Friday Folder: Every Friday, your child will come home with his/her “Henley”
folder. This folder will contain various notes, flyers, and schoolwork.
Please check the folder each weekend, sign the sheet inside, and return on
Monday.
Clothing: Please label your child’s clothing with his/her name; including
sweatshirts, jackets, and coats.
Snack: The school district will be providing a snack for kindergarten
students everyday. Students will be given a healthy treat to eat along with
a milk or juice. Please let me know immediately if your child has any food
allergies.
Change of Clothes: Please send an extra change of clothes to school with your
child. Be sure to mark each piece of clothing with his/her name, and place
them in a bag that can be easily labeled (a gallon sized Ziploc works well).
These will be kept in the classroom in case of emergencies, and will be sent
home at the end of the year.
Book Orders: Scholastic Book orders will be sent home periodically. Look for
the first one to be sent home during the second week of school.
Birthdays: We welcome birthday celebrations; however, only store/bakery
prepared foods are allowed. In accordance with the new healthy snack
implementations only mini cupcakes or small cookies may be brought to share
(no large cupcakes, cakes, or oversize doughnuts). Birthday treats are also
limited to the last 30 minutes of our school day. Please make arrangements
prior to sending birthday treats to school.
Volunteers: I encourage and welcome volunteers in our classroom. You must
complete volunteer paperwork, including a background check, before you will
be allowed to begin volunteering. There are always dozens of things with
which you can assist us. If you do not feel comfortable in the classroom, or
cannot make it in during school hours, we could also use help preparing
materials (at home). However, I do ask for NO volunteers the first 3-6 weeks
of school. This is an adjustment period for many children. I will let you
know when we are ready for your help. Please let me know if you are
interested in helping out in our classroom in any way.
Star Student: Each week we will have a “Star Student” of the class. Every
child will have an opportunity to be the “Star Student” throughout the school
year. During this week s/he will be interviewed by classmates and a bulletin
board dedicated to them, telling about them and their favorite things. S/he
will also be able to bring something for show and tell, along with having a
special job of their choosing for the week. I would like to encourage you to
come have lunch with him/her at least one day during the week that your child
is the “Star”. This week is intended to help them feel special and be able
to shine. I will be sending home a notice when it is your child’s week.
Library: We hope to begin visiting the school library within several weeks
also. Students will be able to check out one book to take home very week.
Again, I will notify you when our library visits begin.
Transportation / Emergency Information: Enclosed you will find a form to fill
out that will provide me with important information. Please return this to
me (not the office) on Monday, September 10th. I like to have this
information at my fingertips should I need it for any reason throughout the
school year. Please notify me if any of this information changes during the
year.
Visiting the Classroom & Picking Up Children: It is extremely important that
you check in at the office when coming to school for a visit, or to pick up
your child early. For safety reasons, the office needs to be aware of anyone
on school grounds. Also, no one may pick up your child without your
consent. You must call the office or send a note with your child.
Classroom Website: Our class information can be accessed through
http://www.teacherweb.com/OR/HenleyElementary/Glasscock/. You will find
announcements, schedules, homework assignments, and various other
information. Add our site to your favorites list and check in often for
updates. Every Monday I put out a weekly newsletter, “Kindergarten News,”
which can be viewed on our website. I can also send you an email alert when
it’s been posted if you choose. Throughout the year I like to add
photographs of things we are doing in class. With your permission I will
include your child’s picture on our site. Please complete the attached form
regarding our website and return to school.
I look forward to a fun and exciting year with you and your child. Please
don’t ever hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns you have. I
want Kindergarten to be a wonderful experience for all of us!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Glasscock
