During the school year, each student will have the opportunity to be the Star Student for an entire week. Being a Star Student is more than just having a fancy title for a week. Our Star Student is given special privileges and opportunities to celebrate how special he or she is. While your child is the Star, each day of the week will consist of an exciting event or activity to honor him or her and to help us get to know our special classmate. Below you will find information on each daily activity that is given to the Star Student of the week. Monday-Getting to Know You The Star Student will be interviewed by classmates. Each child will be given the chance to ask the Star a question about him/herself. When the interview is complete each child will write the Star’s name and draw a picture of him or her. These pictures will be compiled into a book and sent home with the Star Student. The Star’s self portrait will be hung on the Star Student bulletin board for the week. Tuesday-Poster Share The Friday before your child is to be the Star, s/he will be sent home with a large, blank piece of poster-board. Please help your child create and decorate this poster with things that tell all about him/her. Include things like, name, birthday, siblings, pets, favorite book/story, favorite color, favorite food, special talents or hobbies, etc., etc. You may use any materials to decorate the poster (i.e., paint, markers, crayons, fabric, pictures, etc.) Be creative and have fun together while making a poster all about your child. Please send the poster to school on the following Tuesday to share with the class. The poster will hang in the classroom for the duration of the week and then be returned home. Wednesday-Favorite Picture Book Our Star Student will need to bring one of his or her favorite picture books to read to the class (or have the teacher read to the class). Thursday-Treasured Trinkets The Star Student will bring 3 special items from home to share with the class. Students are encouraged to bring items that hold a special meaning rather than just a collection of toys. Friday-Star Friends Our Star Student will be presented with a friendship book created by his or her classmates. Additional ideas for families during the week: Lunch Buddy: I encourage you to come and eat lunch with your Star one day during their special week. Parent Letter: I also encourage you to write a letter to our class telling why your child is so special. I will read this to the class during the week. Please help me to celebrate your little shining star during their special week!
