Hello everyone!
This week we'll be continuing the book, "Three Cups of Tea," by Greg Mortenson. Our vocabulary
assignments are based on this literature, as are the questions the kids are answering after each chapter.
This week we'll hopefully be reading through Chapter 18, because I'm going to push the kids to finish
the book before Greg Mortenson comes to Bend to speak! We are continuing to fill in our Cause and
Effect and Character Web Worksheets in the packet as we read.
Conferences are this week on Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-7:30. There will be no school on
Friday. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of parents and kids!! : )
Last week's OAKS reading test went well and many students improved their scores! We will be taking
the OAKS test one more time this year at the end of March.
"Three Cups of Tea" is a phenomenal true story and the author is coming to Bend to speak in February!
Beginning in December, the community of Bend is also taking part in a Pennies for Peace drive
(Mortenson's brainchild) to raise enough money to build a school and maintain it for three years in
Pakistan or Afghanistan. So far the community and school shave raised over $5000!
I encourage all parents and guardians out there to pick up this inspiring book and read it! FYI: the kids
will be reading the young adult version.
