Illustrated Dictionary of Literature Terms

Project Description & Grading:

Each student will create their own dictionary of literature terms.  Your
dictionary must include a page for each of the required literature terms (See
the literature terms handout).  The Illustrated Dictionaries will be scored on
the following requirements:

The cover of your illustrated dictionary must include color, a title, and the
author’s name.

Your dictionary needs to include a table of contents that lists the literature
terms in alphabetical order, and includes page numbers for each term.  Your
table of contents should be listed on the back of the front cover.

Each page of your dictionary is clearly labeled with the term you are
explaining, and a clear and correct definition of the term is given.

Each page includes a written example of the literary term being used correctly.

Each page contains a drawing or illustration that fits with the term you are
explaining, and with your written example.

Please Note:  Illustrations will  be scored according to the knowledge they
demonstrate about the literature terms we are studying.You will not be scored
on artistic ability.  Stick figures, for example are acceptable.

We will spend class time on several occasions to work on this project, however
most students will find it necessary to complete this project as homwework. 
over the next two weeks we will go over examples of each of the required
literature terms in class.  Students will also have practice identifying each
of the literary techniques in a variety of texts.  Students will also practice
using each of the techniques in their own writing.

Prepare a presentation about your assigned section of the U.S. Constitution. 
Your goal is to explain your section using your own words in such a way that
everyone in the class can understand its importance.  Uncommon, or unfamiliar
words should be defined.  The information you present should be contained on a
poster that includes a visual.  The should help explain one or more of the
important concepts you are presenting.

Evaluation:

Content
Your presentation explains all of the important concepts in your assigned
section of the U.S. Constitution.  The ideas are presented clearly, using
vocabulary that everyone in the class can understand.  For the most part the
concepts are presented in your own words, with definitions given for words
that might be uncommon, or unfamiliar to your audience.

Visual
A visual is included on your poster that helps explain one or more of the
concepts you are presenting.  Writing, especially headings and key words are
bold and easy to read.  Your work is neat, without smudges, crumpling, etc.

Presentation
The presentation responsibilities are shared equally.  Most of the information
presented is memorized.  The presentation is smooth, indicating that the group
has spent time rehearsing/preparing to present.
