Grading Policy

Grades will be based on achievement in several categories.  Approximate 
percentages are given for each.

Homework: 30%     Emphasis is placed on understanding, so you must attempt to 
do every problem.  Work is due the following school day it is assigned.  Late 
work is not accepted without an extension.  Students who miss assignments due 
to an excused absence will be allowed to make the work up without penalty.  
All homework will be completed in a spiral notebook designated for math.

Self Directed Learner:  10%     Each student is expected to be a good citizen 
and contribute to the mathematical thinking of the classroom.  Self directed 
learners arrive on time, come to class prepared, go right to work, follow 
directions, cooperate with others, monitor their own behavior, respect 
others, listen well, and participate positively.  Remember to act with 
courtesy at all times, with every member of the Kennedy community and you 
will see that same courtesy shown to you.

Classwork:  10%     Students are expected to come to class prepared with all 
supplies and ready to go to work on their daily warm ups.  Active appropriate 
participation in class acitivities, making presentations, and being a 
productive group member contribute to successful class work.

Tests/Quizzes:  40%     Tests and quizzes will be given throughout the year.  
There will generally be a test at the end of each major concept.  These are 
designed to assess student progress.

POW/Projects/GO's:  10%     Problem Of the Week (POW) are required math story 
problems that develop skills for success in and outside the classroom.Projects 
will be related to the curriculum and assigned periodically throughout the year.
Graphic Organizers will be used with each major math concept.

90% - 100%   A
80% - 89%    B
70% - 79%    C
60% - 69%    D
Below 60%    F
