Leighty sensei 6/7 English/SS

                               Week 6 Quarter 2
  This week we will be continuing on with the Constitution.  In social 
studies students will continue to work with the “We the People” text.  
Students will also be watching a video on the forming of the constitution 
called “A More Perfect Union”.  In language arts this week, students have a 
book report project due on Friday the 18th.  Students will be working on the 
Précis that accompanies the book report project throughout the week in 
class.  Two days of computer time have been dedicated to the book report 
project.  Please remember that the presentation needs to be e-mailed to me no 
later than the morning of the 18th.  Further clarification:

•Next week we will not be starting new words in language arts due to the 
winter break.  We will begin new vocabulary when we get back from break on 
the 4th. 

•Expect an eight page packet to be sent home on Wednesday the 16th.  This 
packet needs to be completed during break and will be due the Wednesday we 
return from break (January 6th).  Each page is worth ten points and is 
intended to be review.  If you do not understand the packet try your best and 
I will help you after we return from break.

•If you have borrowed one of my books or a school books and are no longer 
reading/using it please bring it back.  My personal classroom library has 
been depleted.  A prize may be given ;0)


•Updated grades have been posted on PASS as well as my classroom wall.

                                   Week 5 Quarter 2

 This week we will continue looking at the Constitution and the role of 
Government in America.  Do not forget that there will be a spelling test on 
Friday.  Just a reminder, book report projects will take place next Friday 
the 18th.  We will have two days in the computer lab next week to work on 
them.  Make sure you are prepared to present by e-mailing me your 
presentation as soon as it is complete.  *Homework is subject to change this 
week based on how far we get in our discussions.  I will try to update and 
include any changes or things added.

* research John Adams and write a poem describing his life.  (Poems do not 
need to follow a specific format).
* Make a song to help remember the Bill of Rights
* Read Benjamin Franklins Autobiography and write a reflection with your 
ideas and what events or ideas relate to the time period at hand.

This will be a short week.  Remember that Thursday is art conspiracy day.  
Friday we do not have school for grading.  Your new words for this week will 
be listed below as well as extra credit and enrichment opportunities.  Make 
up tests must be done by Thursday.  Retakes will be available during 
advisory.  As always, if you have questions, comments, or concerns do not 
hesitate to ask.

                                Week 9

This will be a very busy week.  Remember to check your planners and keep up 
on due dates.  During 4th period you will continue to read the Witch of 
Blackbird Pond.  Do not loose your question packet that was handed out last 
Friday.  I will collect those on Thursday. Don’t forget to bring your flash 
drive.  Tuesday I have computer time scheduled so that you can update your 
Google docs documents for parent conferences as well as research for your 
advisory project.  Make the most of your time.  

Monday 11/2:

HMWK: work on essay and work on timeline (essay and timeline due on the 5th) 

Tuesday 11/3: 
LA: Computer lab: bring your flash drive to upload papers for conferences and 
materials to work on for your advisory exhibition.

                                     Week 6
Hope you guys had a nice three day weekend!  This week we have a few 
surprises in store.   On the 13th we will have a guest presentation and work 
shop on Native American story telling.  I think it will be a great experience 
for us all.  In Piontek Sensei’s class there will be a guest teacher for 
Tuesday and Wednesday next week.  She will be teaching you guys about Native 
American poetry.  The most important surprise is that we are NOT scheduled 
for testing!  Other than that I foresee a rather “standard” week.  As always, 
make sure to ask for clarifications if needed.

                                   Week 5
I want to begin by thanking all of you for your amazing flexibility and 
patience this last week.  I know testing made everything a bit a chaotic, but 
you guys were awesome.  This week we will be focusing on American History and 
our book reports.  Remember if you start having a hard time or not fully 
understanding what I am asking come talk to me.

                                    Week 4
Can you believe it has almost been a month?  You guys are great!  I am really 
looking forward to this week and getting into some real curriculum!  In 
language arts we will begin studying American Literature with a play 
called "The Crucible".  In social studies we will be looking at world 
geography.  This week we will start MAPS testing.  Make sure to bring your 
SSR book as well as your "notes" notebook.  Don't forget to use Piontek 
Sensei's 4th period for English work.  I look forward to this week!
