About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
I've been teaching Spanish for a total of ten years and am happy to begin my fifth year at Sunset. I suppose you could say I've been studying languages since the age of four (I attended a bilingual Montessori school in India) and ever since have been fascinated by languages. In addition to English, I speak Urdu/Hindi, Spanish and some Italian. I received my BA in Spanish Literature from UC Davis and then went on to complete coursework for my teaching credential and MA in Spanish at CSU Sacramento. Over the years, I've traveled to and studied in Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Peru. And yes, if it were possible, I'd be a professional student! I like to spend my free time in the outdoors (hiking, camping, fly fishing), traveling, watching indie and foreign films, reading, exploring Portland (I'm convinced this is the best city on the planet), and planning my next vacation. Last summer, I was lucky enough to combine my love of traveling, volunteering and Spanish by going to Costa Rica to work at a turtle reserve. Check out the "Fotos" link to see some photos of that trip and others.
Mission Label:
Mission
Students will continue to build upon and strengthen the language skills they acquired in previous levels of Spanish. Through the balanced use of listening, reading, speaking and writing activities, students will broaden their vocabulary, grammar and knowledge of Hispanic cultures. I expect all of my students to use Spanish as much as possible! I realize that learning another language can be a challenge and that you may not feel very comfortable speaking this beautiful and complex language. But, as with everything else, it gets easier with practice and time. I don’t expect you to always speak perfectly; I do expect you to make an effort. So, don’t worry about making mistakes and always ask for clarification if you don’t understand!!
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
