HOMEWORK:

Found a GREAT interactive website for ABC's and Learning to Read at:
www.starfall.com
Try it!!!

Tuesdays: "Say my funny saying" booklets should be supervised by parent.
Most
student's need parental help in practicing the proper formation of letters;
the Tuesday booklet provides stars and arrows for direction. Many students
begin their letters from the bottom; please help them to remember
they should start from the top. This booklet needs to be returned to school.

Practice at home: Monthly high-frequency words; practice reading and
spelling them; Use flashcards. Read the booklets that
students bring home and focus on the high-frequency words.

                   Review worksheets and booklets;
go over with your child to see if they understand the
                   concepts.

Thursday worksheets are for enrichment and activity
ideas; They need not be returned unless noted.

Sight Word Readers: Parents are to work with
their student in helping them write a sentence using the
target word and then bring back to class. This can be
                   done over the weekend.

Review weekly math booklets with students.
                   Did they finish?
                   Do they understand concept?
Are there notes from the teacher?

Newsletters and website: These contain information about what we will be
studying. Use the information and find more enriching activites to
engage in with your child.

Compound Words..........Think of small words put together to make one
big word.

Rhyming Words.......What is the sound that is the same in two rhyming
words...........cat and rat........."at".

Reserve at least 20 minutes a day of your undivided attention for
your child. Talk with them about their day, play indoor or outdoor
games (catching and bouncing balls, climbing, or jumping rope is
great for developing both large and fine motor skills), take
discovery walks together, or read a book together.

Remember to develop these skills at home: Self-Confidence,
Problem-Solving Skills, Independent Reasoning, Respect; These
four skills are IMPORTANT KEYS in school success!

Help your child feel important and needed in the family....give them
chores which should be considered CONTRIBUTIONS to the family:
Let them know which things YOU are PROUD to do for the
               family
Give them a list of things they can choose to help the family
Give them a time line to accomplish their family contribution
               Do not remind them (nag)
(For help go to www.loveandlogic.com They have
               great resources!)

Each Thursday there should be a Take-Home sheet focusing on the
letter of the week and a Take-Me-Home Rhyme Book for more repeated
practice and actvities to do together. Watch for other practice
sheets that may come home marked "Homework". These
"Homework" sheets are for their enrichment and need not be
brought back to school unless noted.

Most important - Have FUN together!

HERE'S TO YOUR HEALTH:

Flouridatation: Weigh the risks along with the benefit
Article in the Oregonian by ANDREW HARRIS a Salem physician on the
board of PhysicianS for Social Responsibility:
...."Thus, the issue of fluoridating water is not about adding
pharmaceutical grade sodium flouride purchased from a chemical
supply house. The effluent from indusrial scrubbers contains known
carcinogens and neurotoxins, chemicals that have been implicated in
learning disabilities, attention-deficit disorder and aggressive and
delinquent behavior..."
