Due: Tuesday, October 21
****Note to families: Most of the research will be done in class, but the
model will be done at home.
Definition of a habitat= A place where an animal finds the food, water, and
shelter it needs to live.
Step One:
Choose your habitat:
A)Tundra
B)Evergreen/Coniferous Forest-
Where the cone-bearing trees don’t lose their leaves.
C)Deciduous Forest
Where the trees lose their leaves.
D)Tropical Rainforest-
This is an ecosystem full of many layers. Please choose one specific layer
of the forest.
E)Desert
F)Ocean
G)Lake
H)Pond
I)Scrublands
J)City/Metropolitan
Step Two:
Get Specific:
1)Where exactly is your habitat of choice?
2)Is it a local habitat, here in Oregon?
3)Is it in a different part of the U.S.?
4)Is it in a different country? Which one?
5)Now, name the specific location of your habitat. For instance, if I chose
deserts in step one, I would now specifically choose the Sahara Desert in
Africa.
Step Three:
Research:
Find out about your habitat. Do research, take notes, draw pictures, answer
the following questions and make your own questions too.
A)What is the general climate and temperature of the area?
B)What is the annual percentage of rainfall in the area?
C)What types of plants grow in the area? Name at least 5.
D)What types of animals live in the area? Name at least 5.
E)Now, make up your own question.
Step Four:
Use your creativity to make a 3-D model of your habitat:
1)Your model may not be any larger than 12” deep and 24” by 24” in length
and
width.
2)Where on Earth is it? You must include a map of your specific habitat
somewhere on your model.
3)You need to include the answers to your research questions somewhere on
your model.
4)Please place a title on the model, which must include the name of the
specific habitat and your name.
5)Create animals and plants that belong on your model.
6)You may use any material that you want to create the model. The more
creative the better. Use your artist hands though, please do not use ‘store
bought’ items to include on the project. Everything on your project must be
handmade by you or found in nature. You may type or handwrite the written
parts of the assignment.
Step Five: Oral Reports: You will be required to give an oral report of your
model.
1)You must include your answers to the research questions.
2)Please describe the various parts of your model.
3)You must also tell the audience what your favorite part of the project was
and why.
How you will be graded on your project:
1)Following directions:
a.)Size of project (2pts.)
b.)Choice of habitat (2pts.)
c.)Inclusion of title (2pts.)

(10 pts.)
