The following are a couple of rules you may want to adopt in your home:
1. Limit the amount of screen time (television, game boy/x-box, and computer)
per night.
2. Put the computer in a central area in the house where the monitor can be
viewed at all times by an adult.
3. Discuss the concerns of blogs and messaging. To avoid any issues with
contacting strangers a rule of no messaging can be adopted.
4. Do not let your child give out any personal information about themselves
without your permission.
5. Use kids safe searches to search for information. Yahoo and google are
the most popular search engines used by adults but the types of information
is not filtered for children's viewing.
A list of Search Engines for kids is found by using the kid safe search
engines link from the PNA's Technology Home Page.
By avoiding complicated wording and inappropriate materials, these
directories and search engines limit the type of information resulting in
the majority of pages designed for kids.
6. Use the links by grade from the technology home page to find out what web
sites students are using in lab and the curriculum outline per month. |
