What fun we have in the Terrific Turtle Class! Curious and eager to learn come to mind when describing 4 and 5 year olds. We spend the year preparing the children for their entrance into kindergarten. We have a "Letter of the Week" with activities, snack, songs and crafts centered around the letter. On Monday, we work on a page for our ABC book. The children also have fun with letters on "Homework Tuesday" where they bring in something that begins with that week's letter. They then give their classmates clues so that they can guess what it is. They recognize and learn to use numbers up to 20. The children also love using the computers in our classroom! What a great to learn and reinforce skills! The Turtles are great cooks and have been known to make their own soft pretzels, "Stone Soup", and hot dogs over the campfire in our classroom during Wild West Week. They also love our special food days.......Tropical Fruit Tasting, Chinese New Year feast, Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast, to name a few! The children travel throughout the world. We study the penguins of Antartica, become palentologists and make and read dinosaur fossils, explore outer space, ride our horses way out west, travel to the rainforest and dive beneath the deep blue sea. We introduce the children to Spanish and by year's end they know all the colors, parts of the body, clothing, animals and days of the week and months of the year. They also learn numbers up to 20 and can add and subtract in Spanish. We reinforce their Spanish with lots and lots of Spanish songs. We end the year by traveling to Mexico with a Cinco De Mayo fiesta to celebrate all the Spanish they have learned. Come join us.............we have so much fun! THIS CLASS MEETS MONDAY THRU FRIDAY FROM 9:00 TO 12:00 NOON. The 5 day class benefits children whose birthdays fall near the cutoff for kindergarten, as well as mature four year olds with teacher recommendation.
