Ask the LibrarianQuestions about the Summer Reading Assingments, followed by questions about the Reading Olympics Team .
Tests on the summer reading begin on Nov. 17. The delay was caused by the impasse of the budget in Harrisburg which held up the Act 90 orders for our school. Students are coming to the library with their math teacher. The test consists of 10 randomly selected questions and students must get 7 of the 10 questions correct to pass the test. If a student fails on the first attempt, he or she may come back one more time to try to test on that book again. If a student fails the second attempt, they must choose another book from the reading list and pass the test on the new selection. Additional tests will have to be taken on the student's own time -- usually during lunch periods. To see when you are scheduled to take the test, consult the Special Events Icon. Any senior who is not currently enrolled in a math class must come during their lunch period to take the test. Regarding the summer reading, what books may I read? There is a list of books for summer reading test option on this website on the page labeled Summer Reading List 2009. The book discussions sponsored by the reading olympics team are only one section of the list. To participate in our book discussions, you must choose a title from the 2010 Reading Olympics list. The discussion option closed in August, 2009. Do I have to be on the Reading Olympics Team to join your discussions? No, they are open to all students. However, because of the popularity of some titles, some of the discussion groups will be limiting the size of their membership to a managable number. How do I go about participating in the Reading Olympics Summer Reading discussion groups? You may send an e-mail to the librarian at libraryabw@yahoo.com Please indicate your name, student number, and the book you want to discuss in that e-mail. You will receive an invitation via email inviting you to join the ning. Please answer the necessary questions. Once you are a member of the ning, you join the group for the book you have chosen. I already signed up for the ning and now I can't remember the ning address to get back there? awhsro2010.ning.com I would like to join the Reading Olympics Team. How do I do that? Stop by the library and get an application form from the Librarian. Are there any special requirements to participate in the Reading Olympics team? Every member of the team is expected to read a minimum of two books, and submit possible questions for those books to the library. Members also moderate one of the summer reading book discussion groups. Will Reading Olympics conflict with my other practices? No, because you read on your own time. Our meetings will happen only during homeroom a few weeks before the competition. How many nights or weekends do we meet? There is only the night of the competition which will be sometime in April. As soon as the date is known, it will be posted here. I still have questions?? What should I do??? Contact the librarian at libraryabw@yahoo.com |
