Subscription Database Information
The following databases are subscriptions held by Archbishop Wood High
School. To visit the website, just click on the link at the bottom of each
description. Passwords are not needed while inside the school building.
They will be supplied upon request to any student doing research work outside
the building.

eLibrary
Offers more than 2,000 full-text sources, with improved
functionality, and a fun and easy-to-use search interface.
Includes magazines, newspapers, books, television/radio
transcripts, maps, pictures, and audio/video clips.
eLibrary Science
Offers laser-focused science content and tools along with unique
video and dozens of manipulatives found in no other online
science reference product.
SIRS Discoverer
General reference resource for young researchers that makes
learning fun and intuitive. Helps students in grades 1-9 develop
their research, writing, language and computer skills.
Proquest
A database of encyclopedias and specialized reference books
for multidisciplinary research. Virtual Reference Library
is available from school and from home with passwords available
from the librarian. The Gale Virtual Library collection includes
Countries and Their Cultures, Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice,
Encyclopedia of Modern Europe from 1789-to present, Encyclopedia
of World Biography and Supplement, Modern American Literature,
St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, and U*X*L American
Decades.
Galenet
Encyclopedia Americana and Lands and People. All articles supply
MLA citations. In addition to feature stories and international
news, the main page also features newspapers of the world. Click
on the desired country, "go" and a list of newspapers will come
up. Click on any you would like to read.
Americana/Grolier Multimedia
Sources available from FACTS.com include World New Digest
(1940-present), World News Special Features, Reuters, Issues and
Controversies, Today�s Science, World Almanac Reference
Database, and World Almanac Encyclopedia.

The POWER library contains many electronic databases that
allow you to access thousands of full text periodical articles,
newspapers, a major encyclopedia, plus photographs, pictures,
charts, maps, and many more reference materials. You will find
materials of interest in most subject areas for all age groups.
In addition, you can find books available in your local library
through Access Pennsylvania. Another feature is "Ask the
Librarian." Questions posed there are answered by live
librarians. This is an instant chat and it is available
24/7. Upon completion, you will receive a log of your
session if you provide an e-mail address.
Students may also access this website from home with a public
library card. They enter via www.buckslib.org or www.mclinc.org
and choose the public library to which they belong. Then they
enter the barcode number from their public library card and the
entire Power Library is at their fingertips.
