Class Size Task Force
Dear Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Community Members, The Avon Grove School District is in the process of chartering a Class Size Task Force. The goal of this project is to review the Avon Grove School District
Board Policy #126
(class size). As an outcome of this goal, guidelines for class size for grades kindergarten through 12 will be developed and presented to the Avon Grove School Board. The guidelines will take into account data on existing and expected future number of students; the number of (basic skills) teachers, other certificated professional staff, and aides; facilities (classrooms and other space), financials, land, and typical building construction timelines. The task force will be comprised of administrator(s), teacher(s), parent(s), community member(s), school board member(s), Board Finance Committee (as required), Board Facilities Committee (as required), Board Personnel Committee (as required), and a consultant (as required). Information regarding the application process for serving on this committee will be in the next edition of The Grove in July 2008. The Board and Administration encourage you to apply. Concurrent with the formation of the Class Size Task Force, the Administration will move forward with filling the second-grade teaching position at Penn London Elementary that is currently in budgetary reserve for 2008-2009. This action is substantiated by the
Pennsylvania Economy League
projected numbers and within the existing
Board Policy #126
. The Administration will also be using
PA-Pact grant
funds for a teaching position in third grade, which represents the addition of one teacher to the current 2008-2009 staffing plan at Avon Grove Intermediate School. There will be no impact on the
2008-2009 proposed final budget
as a result of these changes. I thank you for your continued interest and involvement on behalf of the children of the Avon Grove School District. Sincerely, Augustus J. Massaro, Ed. D. Superintendent
