Science: We will be starting our new kit: Populations and Ecosystems.  We will be learning all about what makes up an ecosystem and how insects interact within their environment.
Writing: We are currently working on comparing and contrasting.  The students have created a writing piece that compares and contrasts Ancient Egypt and Ancient Mesopotamia.  All of the students are using our writing wiki to interact with each other. All writing is online in a password protected area. The students can read, edit, and revise each others writing. Many students are also do some personal writing on the wiki. Ask your child about their writing wiki!

Language Arts: We have been busy learning all about nonfiction reading.  Throughout this unit we have examined nonfiction text, news articles and reference materials.  We will use our knowledge of these items to help us complete a mini research paper on a president of our choice.  We are will also create our own fable pop-up page to show our understanding of the elements of a fable. We have studied the elements of nonfiction and drama as well.  We are continuing to read our independent books in order to reach our goal of 3,750 pages read by the end of the year.  If you want to see how we are doing with our "page count" check out our chart in the independent reading section.  During the school year you can be aware of your child's progress by checking their performance in the section marked "graded papers." This section can be found in our Language Arts binder. At the end of each trimester this section will be sent home in a sign and return packet.  We are already better readers!
