Policies/Procedures

Absences/Lateness:

The school day begins promptly at 7:45am.  If children arrive after this time, they need to report to the main office for a late slip.  They will be marked tardy (unless because of the bus).

Children who will be out because of illness must have a parent call main office the day they will be absent.  Upon their return, a note must be sent to school stating date(s) and reason absent.  If three consecutive days or more, this note MUST also be accompanied by a Doctor's note.

Birthdays:

In our classroom, we will celebrate each child's birthday this year.  If their birthday is during the summer, we will celebrate their half-birthday if possible.

Birthday Bag - Each child will get to bring home our class Birthday Bag.
In this bag there is the
Happy Birthday to You book by Dr. Seuss.
Please read this to your child then have them do a
page in our "If I
         had One Wish"
binder.  I ask that you return everything the very next
         day so it is
available for the next child....we do have some months

with back-to-back birthdays.

Celebrations - We will acknowledge all birthdays during our Morning
         Meetings and share the
"If I had One Wish" binder the day after.

Party Invitations - If you are having a birthday party for your child, you
         may only send invitations
through school if the whole class is
invited OR a boy invites all the boys in the class; a girl invites
all
the girls in the class....no exceptions.  If being more selective,

please mail invitations.

Snacks/Treats- You may send to school a birthday treat for all
students to be eaten during our AM
snack time.....please check the
class list for number of students.

Classroom/Behavior Management:

Behavior Calendar -  Calendars are posted in the take home folder and can be checked
daily by parents.  A sticker will represent how children have done for the day and
corresponds to our behavior chart in the classroom.....green (good day); yellow
         (so-so
day); red (not so good day).....a note or phone call will accompany the red
         sticker in the folder.

Bucket-Fillers - Bucket-Filler is based on a book Have You Filled a Bucket Today.  This
goes along with our "Caught You Being Good" cards, stressing the positive things we do all day
long.  We will "fill" our classroom bucket (with pom poms) by being "bucket-fillers"
(random acts of kindness).....when our classroom bucket gets to a certain
level, the classroom will get a special treat....like popcorn and a movie, etc...

   Morning Meet
ings - Daily classroom carpet time where we gather to greet each other,
share things about ourselves, do community building activities, and share a morning
message to begin our day.  Here we will also incorporate our calendar time, etc...

Change in Transportation:

If your child will be travelling home a different way than ususal, a written note must be sent to school noting that change for the day.  In an emergency, a call may be placed to the front office.

Communications (Parent/Teacher):

Conferences - Parent-Teacher conferences for Kindergarten take place twice a year -
fall (for all families) and spring (as needed).  Other times may be scheduled throughout
the year by the parents and/or teacher.

Email/Voicemail -  Each teacher has a school email address and voicemail.  Please feel
free to use either to contact me, but please also allow up to 48 hours for an email
response and 24 hours for voicemail.  I will try my best to respond much sooner than
that, but the school day (7:45am - 3:30pm) is full and I may not get to see/hear the
         message right away.

Notes - A written note is the quickest and best form of communication.  Folders are
checked every morning and sent home every afternoon.  Ple
ase use this not only as
         a homework folder, but as
a communications folder as well.

Teacher Web Page - Please make a habit of checking my teacher web page on a weekly
basis.  This is important information pertaining to our classroom and your child.  This
does not replace the school webpage, so please check both on a regular basis for
         Kindergarten and school information.

Folder:

Each child will have one folder that will come home daily.  The behavior calendar, homework, and any other classroom or school communications will be included in this folder.  Please check it everyday.

Homework:

Homework is minimal in Kindergarten.  Homework will formally begin in October and will come home in a WEEKLY packet on Fridays. These activities can be completed at anytime throughout the week and will be due the following Friday.

Lunch:

If your child is purchasing hot lunch, you must fill out the MONTHLY calendar that will be sent home at the beginning of the month with their hot lunch selection for each day.  We need to have a record of what the children will be getting on a daily basis so their is no confusing which choice was selected.  This will help our youngest students (and their teachers!) in the lunchroom.

S.T.A.R.:

The acronym S.T.A.R. will be used for those times when someone is stressed or upset.  It stands for Smile; Take a deep breath, And, Relax.  We will try to be S.T.A.R.s in these situations!

O.W.L. of the Week:

Each child in the classroom will have a turn being the O.W.L. of the Week (Outstanding Wise Learner) and the order has already been selected randomly.  Children will bring home a note when it is their turn and will get to do various fun activities throughout the week, including having a Mystery Reader....someone from the family will get to come in (a surprise) and read a book to the entire class.
