Calendar As you will remember, Blessed Virgin Mary has a calendar system in place. This is an important behavioral tool for teachers to hold students accountable for their actions. Calendars are to be signed weekly by the parent. Calendars will go home on Thursdays and must be returned, signed by the parent, on Friday. Failure to do this will result in calendar marks. The calendar system is not the only punishment that may be used in the classroom. Based on the severity of the issue at hand, students may face additional consequences. Alternatively, students will be rewarded for good behavior as individuals and as a group. Tests Tests will usually be given Thursdays or Fridays. In certain cases, this may change! Tests will be announced ahead of time to give students ample time to study. Studying is part of the homeworkprocess, so please check assignment books! Studying a little portion every night is less stressful and more effective than waiting until the night before! Test folders will go home on Wednesdays and should be returned, with every test signed by the parent, on Thursday mornings. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure all tests are signed and returned. Failure to get test folders signed will result in calendar marks! Homework Homework is extremely important! It provides crucial practice for the student and helps the teacher to spot trouble areas. Please encourage students to take their time and complete their homework fully! All homework assigned will be meaningful; it is not just “busy work”. Homework should be completed every night. It will be collected, checked and reviewed in class. If homework is not completed, students can receive a calendar mark! If a child is truly struggling with something, he or she should try his or her best to complete what they can. A blank page with a remark “I didn’t get it,” isn’t acceptable. Effort is most important. Please sign your child’s assignment book each night. This lets me know that you are staying informed on what is expected of them and it also helps to ensure that the students do finish their work. Assignment Books Assignment books should be signed every evening by the parent. Please make a habit ofchecking with your child to make sure he or she has completed everything. Any important reminders may be written in the assignment book as well. Please try to stay informed! You are important to the learning process of your child. Once again, failure to have a parents’ signature in the assignment book will result in a calendar mark. Class Students are expected to come to school each day prepared with necessary supplies and assignments. Students are expected to come in each day ready to learn. We have discussed the rules of the classroom and students have signed the rule sheet, acknowledging that they know how they should act. If students are having trouble in class, as stated above, please contact me. You can reach me at the e-mail address above. I will also keep in touch with you if issues arise. Once again, I thank you in advance for you cooperation and look forward to a fun, exciting year with your children!
