Counseling

School counselors are not therapists and do not diagnose or treat students.
School counselors serve the important role of working with students, parents
and teachers to break down barriers to education. In many situations, it is
helpful to students to talk to someone who can maintain an objective view of
the situation such as a counselor. School counselors work with students in
the areas of social/emotional, career and academic. Many times, the role of
the counselor is to refer the student, or put them in contact with an expert
in the student's area of need whether it be a career question or an issue
outside of school.

Students are always welcome and encouraged to utilize their school counselor
for information or help with anything. Students will never be turned away and
every attempt will be made to help in whatever way possible.

Confidentiality is a very important issue and every effort is made to maintain
student and family confidentiality. There are instances when confidentiality
must be overridden, however. Such circumstances include; abuse or threats.

I value the partnership of parents in education and feel that it is
unfortunately often ignored at the high school level. I welcome questions
from parents as well and believe that working together is extremely important
for student success.
