Course Syllabus for 7th and 8th Grade Chorus

 

Overview:

7th and 8th Grade Chorus is an elective program designed to provide students with choral performance opportunities.  A wide variety of choral literature is performed with an emphasis on the understanding and appreciation of different musical styles.  The choral program requires all participating students to attend rehearsals, and concert performances.    Students will continue to develop a basic understanding of the fundamentals of music, and practice the application of those basic fundamentals through performance.

Outline of Content:

Semester One and Two:

Through chorus rehearsal and choral performance, students will:

·        Sing accurately and with good breath control throughout their singing ranges

·        Sing music representing diverse genres and cultures, with expression

      appropriate for the work being performed

·        Sing music written in two and three parts

·        Sing with expression and technical accuracy a varied repertoire of vocal

      literature, including some songs performed from memory

·        Read at sight simple melodies in 4/4, 2/4, 2/2, and 6/8

·        Identify and define standard notation symbols and terminology

·        Self-assess individual and group performances based on the Elements of Music

·        Demonstrate an awareness of intervallic relation and solfeggio.

            The grade is based on the school district’s grading policy.
